Blasters were energy weapons that fired highly energized and concentrated laser, plasma or particle bolts.
The most commonly used weapon in the galaxy, blaster bolts usually consisted of compacted high-energy particles and intense light that could burn or kill their target. Depending on the setting, they could also be used to stun or sting a target. Blasters ranged in size and power from pistols, carbines, rifles, and cannons, the last of which was usually mounted on or built into starships.
Blasters were powered by a power pack or power cell, but could also be charged. Certain types of blasters, such as the T-7 ion disruptor rifle, fired ion bursts that could short circuit electronic systems and render entire ships inactive. When used on living beings, however, the blast disintegrated organic tissue on the molecular level, causing the target a very slow and painful death.
