- “How we chose to fight is just as important as what we fight for.”
- ―Ezra Bridger
Ezra Bridger (codename Spectre 6) was a young Force-sensitive human street urchin living on the streets of the Imperial-controlled planet Lothal's Capital City trying to survive by crime until he was taken in by Kanan Jarrus, becoming his Jedi apprentice and a part of the Ghost crew's Rebellion against the Empire.
Growing up on Lothal
Ezra Bridger was born on the planet Lothal to Ephraim and Mira Bridger, on the day the Galactic Empire was established under the rule of Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine. Hoping to make the galaxy a better place for him, his parents set up public broadcasting transmissions meant to speak out against the Empire's tyrannical rule, but their small rebellion would cost them their lives. So by the time Ezra was seven, his parents were taken away by the Empire and their family home declared off limits to live in to the public, leaving him to fend for himself for the next eight years, eventually taking up residence in an abandoned communication tower, humorously nicknaming it Ezra's Tower. Ezra resorted to finding work as a con-artist and thief stealing in order to survive, receiving his lessons of such art from Ferpil Wallaway, a pawn shop owner and skilled pickpocket with various underworld connections. The Xexto had the boy do jobs like scanning wealthy-looking tourists and trick them into selling their own belongings, and the two would later pick each other clean for fun. That thievery extended to the Empire, where Ezra occasionally began stealing helmets that he later sold (among other stolen items) on the black market to help support himself. He also befriended Moreena Krai, a girl the same age as him who knew about his under-handed skills.
Throughout his childhood, Ezra would occasionally trigger "strange abilities", which allowed him to see into the future. At the time, Ezra didn't know the true nature of these abilities, which, in truth, was the Force.
One day, at the Capital City spaceport, Ezra was selling tickets for a Gladiator Night match between a Houk named Borbig Drob and a Feeorin named Warjak when Moreena came by and told him that she and her family were leaving for Alderaan to live with her grandmother due to the Empire, and bade farewell to him. Later, Ezra caught sight of the Hound's Tooth and met the bounty hunter Bossk, who hired him as a guide to Ake's Tavern. Once there, Bossk sent Ezra to lure his prey, Gronson "Shifty" Takkaro, out; soon enough, however, a confrontation between Bossk and the assassins Angrigo and the Kratchell twins ensued, in which Ezra stunned Takkaro, and Bossk killed the assassins, only for Imperial authorities to surround them. Aware of a likely set-up by Imperial Security Bureau (ISB) Lieutenant Herdringer, Bossk was forced to leave Takkaro and follow Ezra, and the two escaped from the Imperials on a speeder bike. During their escape, however, Bossk was injured and convinced Ezra to help him by offering the boy all the content of his strongbox onboard the Tooth. In the course of an hour, Ezra took the Trandoshan to his tower and tended to his wounds, before the bounty hunter woke up, "disguised" himself as a blind Trandoshan and almost immediately prompted the boy into leading him to a posting agency at the spaceport.
There, he accessed the Imperial Enforcement DataCore to check records on Herdringer, but discovered Herdringer had been dead for months, and Bossk surmised that his replacement, Jenkes, had been the one to set him up, now also aware that he and Takkaro had worked together in gladiator arena in Nyriaan years before. Their search, though, attracted the attention of Jenkes himself, who sent his Stormtroopers to attack them, but Ezra and Bossk managed to slip away again, and they went to Wallaway's pawn shop, where they saw from afar as Jenkes shot Wallaway and took his money. Once Jenkes left, Ezra and Bossk entered the place, only for Wallaway to die in Ezra's arms. Convinced by Bossk, he accompanied the Trandoshan to Monad Outpost during Gladiator Night, where they faced Jenkes. During the confrontation, Ezra used his stolen Imperial comlink to alert Jenkes' superiors, while Bossk told everyone on the arena of Jenkes' actions. Bridger, then, proceeded to stun the Imperial before he could flee the arena, just before Imperial forces arrived and swarmed the arena. The next morning, as promised, Bossk gave Ezra the contents of his strongbox, which turned out to be just seventy-five credits, and the Trandoshan bade him farewell.
Investigating a Downed TIE FighterOn the way home to his tower, Ezra came across a VCX-100, being pursued by an Imperial TIE Fighter. When the fighter was shot down and crash-landed nearby, Ezra decided to investigate. Upon further inspection, he found an Imperial pilot named Valen Rudor trapped inside the ship's cockpit. Despite Rudor's disgusted and ungrateful tone Ezra helped him escape the wreckage. After successfully opening the top of the cockpit, Ezra hopped inside. He then managed to trick Rudor into thinking he was helping get his armor unstuck, when in fact, he was actually stealing bits of equipment to sell.
After grabbing Rudor's helmet for his collection, Ezra quickly left the wreckage, while revealing his thievish intentions. Rudor, not liking being outsmarted by a kid, attempted to kill Ezra with his fighter's lasers. Ezra managed to evade the shots, however, through the Force. He then used his energy slingshot to electrocute the cockpit, rendering Rudor unconscious. Ezra then made his way back to his tower, with his prizes.
Meeting the Lothal Rebels
Some time later, after a Star Destroyer flew over Capital City, Ezra traveled there on his speeder and witnessed three rebels, consisting of Kanan Jarrus, Zeb Orrelios, and Sabine Wren, attack a group of Imperials in an attempt to steal several speeders carrying crates. He stood back and watched as the Rebels took out the Troopers, then in the ensuing chaos of the battle dropped from the rooftops to commandeer one of the speeders and fled with some of their stolen goods. The Rebels chased him through the streets to the road that led out of the city as he attempted to evade his pursuers. As Ezra fled the city an Imperial TIE Fighter joined the chase destroying the speeder he was riding. Before it could finish him, the Fighter was destroyed by the rebel's ship, the Ghost, which was the same VXC he saw being chased by Rudor months before. The Rebels helped him aboard and made a run for it with four more TIE Fighters after them.
After evading their pursuers, Ezra and the Rebels returned to Lothal and landed near Tarkintown, a refugee camp named after Imperial Outer Rim governor Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin that is home to farmers who's land had been confiscated by the Empire. He helped Zeb and Sabine distribute food from the stolen crates to the people of Tarkintown and later returned to the Ghost where through the force found his way to Kanan's cabin where he found a Holocron and a Lightsaber. He was then kicked out by Kanan upon his return, and the crew's astromech droid Chopper kept watch over the boy to ensure that he didn't pull any reckless tricks.
Mission to free Wookiee prisoners
Later, Ezra remained on board the Ghost with its Twi'lek captain Hera Syndulla while the Rebels revealed they had a new mission to rescue Wookiee prisoners being sent to a slave labor camp on a Imperial transport ship. Unfortunately, the crew had no idea they'd been set up, and after Hera pleaded with him to warn the others, Ezra reluctantly boarded the vessel just in time to warn Kanan, Zeb, and Sabine. They made a run for it back to the ship but Ezra was captured by ISB Agent Kallus and left behind by Zeb. Kallus planned to use him as bait in an attempt to catch the Rebels, but Ezra doubted they would come back for him. While imprisoned aboard Kallus' Star Destroyer, the Lawbringer, Ezra was able to open the holocron he stole, allowing it to play a message from Obi-Wan Kenobi warning all Jedi who survived the Great Jedi Purge at the end of the Clone Wars about the collapse of the Galactic Republic and the rise of the Empire. Ezra managed to escape from his prison and using an Imperial helmet's transmitter, was able to listen in on where the Wookiee prisoners were actually being taken and heard the Rebels had come back for him. He soon regrouped with them and escaped with his knowledge on the Wookiees.
He assisted the Rebels in their rescue mission and released the Wookiees, but they were soon ambushed by the Imperials. It is at this point that when they are pinned down, Kanan stepped forward and activated the lightsaber Ezra found in his cabin, exposing his status as a Jedi. Noticing a Stormtrooper chasing a young Wookiee, Ezra went out to rescue him. Ezra and the Wookiee were cornered by Kallus but were rescued by the Rebels and escaped. After sending the Wookiees on their way, Ezra returned to his tower on Lothal with Kanan's lightsaber. Kanan showed up and told him about the force and that it was strong with him. He was given the option to join their Rebellion, and learn the ways of the Force and become a Jedi.
Salvage Mission on Garel
After a near getaway from TIE Fighters and a Star Destroyer during a failed salvage mission, Ezra and his new fellow rebels found themselves low on food, explosives, and fuel, and unless they find some they will be out of business. Kanan decided to earn some by doing a theft job for crime lord Cikatro Vizago to steal Imperial shipments on Garel, so they flew there on an interplanetary ship. Upon arrival, Ezra greatly helped the Rebels get into the correct section and stole the shipments that they discovered were T-7 Ion Disruptors, which were banned by the Imperial Senate because they were able to instantly kill a living being. This discovery distressed Zeb since these weapons had been used in the brutal Imperial massacre on his homeworld Lasan. As Ezra, Kanan and Sabine loaded the weapons onto the Ghost and Zeb held the Imperials back, the rebels escaped Garel into hyperspace, unwittingly bringing the droid duo C-3PO and R2-D2 aboard with them. While Chopper befriended them, the rebels flew back to Lothal with the intention selling the stowaways along with the disruptors to Vizago, but unknown to them, the Alderaanian senator Bail Organa sent the two droids on the same secret mission to prevent the T-7 s from falling into Imperial hands.
During their deal with the Devaronian, C-3PO, mistaking the rebels for criminals, made an emergency call to Agent Kallus, revealing the rebels' whereabouts. When the Imperials arrived, Vizago fled and spoiled the rebel's transaction by postponing the deal. With no help from him, Ezra and the crew fought back against the attackers by overloading the disruptors against them while Kallus engaged in a fight with Zeb, both using Bo-rifles. Kallus easily gained the upper hand, but Ezra saved Zeb by unacknowledged using the Force to throw Kallus far enough to knock him out. This bought the crew time to escape aboard the Ghost with Ezra and Kanan helping the injured Lasat. Ezra was owed Zeb's gratitude and informed by Kanan that his Jedi training will begin the next day.
Errand Run at the Kothal Marketplace
As a generous measure for saving Zeb's life, Ezra shared a cabin with him aboard the Ghost, but both Lasat and boy often butted heads as they did not get along with each other. Their ongoing quarreling led them to be sent on a supply-run at the marketplace of the nearby village Kothal together by Hera. The two of them managed to get everything on the list except for some fruit known as Meilooruns: which do not grow on Lothal. Ezra and Zeb found a crate of them, only to discover they had already been sold to the Empire. They tried to steal some, but both got caught and made a run for it. After splitting up, Ezra regrouped with Zeb who was flying stolen TIE Fighter and flew away.
While trying to fly their way back to the Ghost, Ezra and Zeb came across a farm that had been attacked by Imperials, which Ezra recognized as the home of Morad Sumar, a friend of his parents. They attempted a rescue mission and, using the Force, Ezra freed Sumar and his wife from their imprisonment. He escaped with Zeb and returned to the Ghost. After everything they'd been through, the two of them had now developed a friendship.
Rescue Mission on The Spire
Ezra's training was found difficult for him and Kanan since the latter knew very little about the ways of the Jedi, as his training was never completed when the fall of the Jedi Order occurred. He began to feel he was not the right person to teach Ezra and needed someone who was fully trained, someone with more discipline and more understanding of the Force.
When word came out on the HoloNet that Jedi Master Luminara Unduli was being imprisoned in a penitentiary on Stygeon Prime known as the Spire, Ezra accompanied the Rebels in a mission to rescue her. At the time, Ezra was upset because Kanan was no longer going to train him and instead dump him onto Luminara. However, the attempted rescue was in vain when they discovered that Luminara was dead and her remains were set up by The Grand Inquisitor as bait to lure any surviving Jedi to their end. Through the engagement against the Pau'an and escape with Zeb and Sabine from the prison, both Master and Apprentice were able to work together and have a better understanding for one another.
Infiltrating the Imperial Academy
Later, Ezra was assigned to infiltrate Lothal's Imperial Academy disguised as a cadet named "Dev Morgan" in order to steal a decoder containing the location of a powerful kyber crystal, with Chopper assisting him disguised as an Imperial astromech droid and Sabine and Zeb waiting outside to evacuate him once he accomplished his mission. The mission, however, took longer than expected due to the high level of security at the Academy but Ezra managed to secure one more day rebel colleagues. With the assistance of fellow cadet Zare Leonis, he succeeded in stealing the decoder from Agent Kallus' office. As planned, Ezra gave the device to Chopper, who then passed it Sabine and Zeb so that they could transmit the coordinates of the kyber crystal to Kanan and Hera, who managed to intercept and destroy the Imperial convoy transporting it.
However, the plan to evacuate Ezra was delayed when he and Zare discovered that another cadet Jai Kell had shown an affinity with the Force and attracted the attention of the Grand Inquisitor. After convincing Jai to escape with them, Ezra convinced his fellow rebels to stage a diversionary attack on the Academy the following day. As planned, the Ghost crew attacked, allowing Ezra and Jai to escape using an AT-DP. After breaching the Academy's fortifications, the rebels escaped back to the Ghost on a landspeeder, and Hera made arrangements for Jai and his mother to go into hiding. Zare, on the other hand, opted to stay behind to discover the whereabouts of his sister Dhara.
Incident at Fort Anaxes
Ezra, along with Hera and Sabine, later participated in a mission provided by Fulcrum, Hera's secret contact and a key leader of the underground Rebel network. As the Ghost's auxiliary shuttle, the Phantom, came under attack by TIE fighters, the narrow brush of death led Ezra to ask Hera if he could drive but regretted by saying he wasn't ready when more TIEs came closing in. By the time they arrived back at the Ghost, he remained on the ship with Kanan, Zeb, and Chopper, while Hera and Sabine departed in the Phantom to meet with Fulcrum himself. However, their coordinates to the mysterious rebel led a supply run at Fort Anaxes, a remote asteroid base once used by the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars, where Fulcrum had already fled and the Phantom broke down in a gas leak Ezra and Zeb forgot to fix, leaving both girls under attack by a pack of Fyrnocks that infested the area. Getting over an argument for failing to see the leak, Ezra discussed the situation with Kanan, who had already sensed it through the Force and heard his Padawan and Zeb arguing outside his cabin. Preparing for a rescue mission, Ezra prevented the Fyrocks from getting on the ship by holding them back for Hera and Sabine but was largely outnumbered. In order to save her friend, Sabine shot a Fyrnock off of him and told the boy not to reach much into it when he thanked her. Most of the creatures continued to attack so to make it easier, Hera had the Ghost clean itself by zapping the creatures off of it as it flew back into space with its entire crew. Along with Zeb, Ezra was simply held responsible for leaving the Phantom with a leak yet expected more by Hera the next time the mistake nearly winds her and Sabine up as lunch.
As Ezra's fifteenth birthday drew near, Kanan began to do better and become more strict in training him. The Jedi tried to teach Ezra how to connect with another being outside Old Jho's Pit Stop, but the boy didn't seem to be in a very good mood and wouldn't cooperate. When three TIE fighters past over head, Ezra could tell that it meant nothing good as he and his master went to join the other rebels inside. There, they became aware that the TIE pilots were at the cantina in search for Tseebo, another friend of Ezra's parents who went to work for the Imperial Information Office shortly after the Bridgers' arrest. Puzzled on what kind of trouble the Rodian was in, Ezra headed back to his tower to think about it until he heard his parents' voices calling out to him through the Force and realized what the only place he could find Tseebo was: his shuttered family home. Meeting back with the Ghost crew following their sabotage of the Empire Day celebration in Capital City, which involved destroying the new TIE Advanced v1 prototype that was displayed to the Lothalian public, the boy led Kanan and Sabine to the shuttered house until everything cleared up while Zeb went back to the Ghost. It was there the trio found Tseebo recovering from a mental illness from a AJ^6 cybernetic implant screwed into his head that has uploaded invaluable information on the Empire's military secrets and five-year plan for Lothal, explaining why the Empire was hunting him, as Ezra went further into his past by showing Sabine the equipment his parents used for their anti-Imperial broadcasts. Realizing Tseebo's value to the Rebellion, the crew of the Ghost agreed to smuggle him off-world.
Ezra helped his fellow rebels steal an Imperial Troop Transport for Sabine to drive him, Kanan and Tseebo through a military blockade and managed to reach the highway, pursued by several Imperial speeder bikers and another troop transport led by Agent Kallus. After fighting off their Imperial pursuers, they were evacuated by the Ghost and fled into space, with several TIE fighters led by the Grand Inquisitor hot on their trail. During the skirmish, Tseebo briefly regained his senses, and Ezra learned from him that he tried to save his parents but was too afraid to try. Upset and angry, he blamed Tseebo for everything and refused to listen to any more of what he had to say. Sabine tried to convince the teenage Jedi to speak to him and learn more about what happened, but Ezra didn't want to. When the Rebels discovered the Phantom was planted with a tracking beacon by the Grand Inquisitor, Kanan and Ezra took the Phantom to the abandon clone base to lure the Grand Inquisitor and the Empire away from the Ghost while the Rebels delivered Tseebo into safe hands. Kanan was hoping that while at this abandoned base he could teach Ezra to connect with another being and use the creatures that inhabited the base to attack the Imperials but Ezra felt too scared, not because of the creatures, it was learning the truth of what actually happened to his parents. Then finally through the Force told Tseebo he was forgiven and was able to control his fear and connect with the Fyrnocks.
Tapping into the Dark Side
The Grand Inquisitor and a squadron of Stormtroopers arrived at the base. Ezra and Kanan commanded the Fyrnocks to attack the Troopers. Kanan engaged the Inquisitor in a lightsaber duel and when Ezra sensed him in trouble, he stood in the way of The Inquisitor to protect his master. However, The Inquisitor forced him away and began to torment him with the fear of losing everyone he cared about and everything he hoped for, at the same time encouraging him to give into it. Ezra's fear grew into anger and then finally into hatred. Through the Dark Side of the Force, he summoned a much larger Fyrnock and commanded it to attack The Grand Inquisitor. However, the enormous power of the Dark Side became too much for him that he collapsed. Kanan carried Ezra to the Phantom and the two escaped from the base.
While on the return journey to the Ghost, Ezra regained full consciousness but had little memory of what happened. Kanan became aware that Ezra was growing more stronger than he wasn't prepared for it.
Visiting a Jedi Temple
Concerned by Ezra's dangerous connection with the Force, Kanan took him to a Jedi temple on Lothal where he would be tested to determine whether or not he is meant to become a Jedi. Journeying deep into the temple alone, Ezra came across many illusions that showed his fear of losing Kanan, his friends and being abandoned but following his training he is able to face his fears and make a stand as an illusion of The Grand Inquisitor prepared to kill him. With the illusion gone, he heard the voice of Master Yoda through the force, who guided him to his next test where he found himself in a hallway of inscriptions.
When Yoda asked him why Ezra should become a Jedi, he claimed it would allow him to become powerful enough to make the Empire suffer for everything it had done to him. Yoda became concerned by his reason because what he was seeking was vengeance, which Ezra denied. However, Yoda could see much anger and fear within him, which helped Ezra realize his true reason to become a Jedi, to protect not only his friends but everyone in the galaxy. When he was still living on the streets he only cared about himself until he met the Rebels and saw how their good deeds made people feel and wanted to be part of that. As the hall disappeared and replaced by a vision of countless stars, a kyber crystal appeared from nowhere and landed gently in Ezra's hands, representing a big step in his Jedi training. Ezra spent several weeks building his own lightsaber using spare parts donated from the Ghost crew. Unlike a traditional lightsaber, he fitted his with a blaster component, which fired stun blasts, since Ezra lacked any sword fighting skills at the time.
Dealing with Lando Calrissian
After Zeb and Kanan lost Chopper in a game of Sabacc to the "galactic entrepreneur" Lando Calrissian, they reluctantly struck a deal to help him smuggle goods to Lothal. During their job run, Ezra quickly took a dislike for Lando after the took interest in purchasing Sabine's art. After the smuggler received a puffer pig from Azmorigan and Hera returned to the Ghost, Ezra and Zeb scared the pig, causing the creature to inflate. This left Hera and the rest of the crew trapped outside the bridge. In the meantime, Kanan was forced to take the helm of the Ghost.
To make matters worse, Ezra climbed over the puffer pig, causing the animal to inflate even more and accidentally push Zeb to deactivate the Ghost's signature mask. The Ghost was then pursued by several TIE fighters but Kanan managed to lose them following a brief dog-fight. Upon landing at Lando's farm, the rebels were immediately accosted by Azmorigan and his henchmen, who had come for retribution against Lando. However, the rebels fought them off and drove them away. During the fight, Ezra used his lightsaber to fire shots at Azmorigan's henchmen. After saving Lando, the crew departed on the Ghost with Chopper stealing Lando's fuel canisters as compensation for their risky job.
Rescue Mission on Lothal
Over the next couple of days, Ezra found it hard to keep the focus on his training since the boy was worried about missing the latest hope-bringing transmissions similar to those his parents made broadcasted by the exiled Senator Gall Trayvis, who spoke out against the Empire. Fortunately, during his lesson to deflect stun shots from Sabine, Zeb, and Chopper, he lost consciousness to a vision of him, Kanan and their fellow rebels saving Trayvis from Imperials, and Trayvis commenting Ezra that his parents were very brave. Telling Kanan about the vision, the boy was later called in by Hera when the transmission came on, where Trayvis spoke complimented on the bravery of rebels defying the Empire's tyranny and hinted he's coming to meet with them at the Old Republic Senate Building on Lothal. Ezra left the company to learn if the Empire knows about the meeting or not from Zare, the Empire will indeed be waiting with a trap, then met up with his fellow rebels in his shuttered house, where Sabine was showing them the transmission equipment that his parents put up.
After arriving at the Senate building using the sewers as a secret shortcut, the group was attacked by the Empire and they fled where they came with Trayvis in their custody. Though outnumbered, the Ghost crew split up with Kanan leading Zeb and Sabine into holding off the Stormtroopers, whilst Hera and Ezra brought Trayvis to another exit, which turned out to be a dead end. So, Hera gave Trayvis a blaster to defend himself, but he revealed himself to be an agent of the Empire who identifies rebels and sympathizers so they could be killed—with their deaths looking like accidents. He was pretty amused to see how fooled Ezra was, but the boy then mentioned that it was because Trayvis' transmissions reminded him of those his parents used to send out. Stunned, the senator replied that no one has ever no one spoke out against the Empire on Lothal since the Bridger transmissions. Realizing Ezra was the Bridger's son, he told the Jedi-in-training that his parents were brave but foolish, and they should have joined the Empire to survive just like he did if they valued their lives. When Hera was approaching him, he pulled the trigger but found out Hera didn't trust him and didn't load the blaster. She punched him as they regrouped with the others came and left.
Broadcasting the Truth
Ezra was disappointed with Trayvis' betrayal and because of that, they planned on doing a broadcast themselves through Lothal's Imperial broadcasting tower. It didn't go well because the Empire was expecting it and captured Kanan. The broadcast was sent, but soon after Grand Moff Tarkin ordered the tower's destruction.
Searching for Kanan
Hera forbids the team from attempting a rescue mission for Kanan, due to advice from Fulcrum. They went anyway to Vizago and Ezra was able to convince him into helping them after revealing Kanan's Jedi identity, as well as his own. Vizago showed Ezra the kind of droids the Empire kept information in. After kidnapping a droid and sending Chopper in its place, they discovered Kanan was being sent to the volcanic planet of Mustafar.
After stealing an Imperial Freighter, Ezra and the rebels journeyed to Mustafar and deployed the TIE Fighter he and Zeb stole a while back to dock them aboard Tarkin's Star Destroyer, the Sovereign, and disable it with an electromagnetic pulse so they could search for Kanan. However, the Imperials were on to them and had called in for reinforcements. The rebels were forced to seal off the door that was their only path to Kanan, but Ezra managed to climb into the air vents to get to him. He came out on the other side, found Kanan, and set him free. But as they made their way to regroup with the others, they ran into the Grand Inquisitor. Master and Padawan then engaged him in a lightsaber duel, using each other's lightsabers. During the fight, Ezra has knocked off the platform leaving Kanan to believe he was dead.
After the defeat of the Inquisitor, Ezra appeared before his master, alive but scarred after he was struck in the face by the Inquisitor's lightsaber. As the Sovereign began to blow up, Ezra and Kanan boarded the Grand Inquisitor's TIE Fighter and escaped with other rebel cells Chopper summoned, supported by Senator Organa and led by Ahsoka Tano, an old classmate of Kanan's in the Jedi Order.
The Siege of LothalOver the next couple of weeks, Ezra and his fellow rebels became part of a larger Rebellion with one of these other cells, called the Phoenix Squadron, but Lothal was now under siege. When Minister Maketh Tua made call to the rebels for asylum and a promise to reveal many secrets of why the Empire was on Lothal, Ezra was the first to go ahead with helping her while everyone else was reluctant too out of distrust. He sensed real fear for her life in her voice and therefore knew she was being sincere. Upon arriving on Lothal, Ezra and the Rebels had found out that things on the planet have gotten worse, as there were more Star Destroyers than before. Things got even worse when Minister Tua was killed in a staged accident set up by Darth Vader and put the blame on the rebels. Knowing the Empire now had all of Lothal against them, the rebels were forced to leave for good, despite Ezra's refusal to run.
With all the ports locked down and on guard, Ezra and his fellow rebels sneaked into the spaceport at the Imperial Complex to steal a shuttle. However, before they could make their escape, Ezra began to sense a cold feeling. His master sensed it too, but unlike Ezra, Kanan recognized the power to be the Dark Side of the Force. Seconds later, Ezra and Kanan were face to face with Darth Vader himself and tried to fight him off, but the Dark Lord was too powerful to handle. Ezra was nearly decapitated by his own weapon when Vader used the Force to bring his lightsaber towards his throat, but was released the moment Kanan returned to the fight. The rebels retreated on the chosen shuttle, but did not head for space because Vader would no doubt have the Imperials waiting for them. Ezra recognized the need to defeat him, but Kanan informed him that since Vader was a Sith, he was too strong both in the Force and in physical strength and the only reason they were still alive was because he had been playing with them during the entire fight. The crew decided to head to Lando's farm for help to smuggle them off Lothal. Lando was off-world at the time but his droid, W1-LE, was there to assist them. Upon arrival, Ezra spotted smoke coming from Tarkintown and took off on a speeder bike to check it out, with Kanan following from afar. He arrived to find the place lying in burning rubble and the citizens were no doubt in Imperial custody. After returning to Lando's farm, Ezra and the Rebels proceeded with their plan and successfully bypassed the Imperial blockade, leaving Ezra's homeworld behind.
However, upon returning to the rebel fleet, the Chopper revealed that a tracker had just activated on the shuttle, which allowed Darth Vader to follow them. Ezra and the other rebels boarded the Ghost and engaged Vader's TIE Fighter in a dogfight with Ezra manning the nose gun. Vader was able to destroy the squadron's command ship, Phoenix Home, forcing the crew aboard to retreat in escape pods to the remaining ships as they fled into hyperspace, but the Ghost crew managed to escape before getting caught in a waiting Star Destroyer's tractor beam. Ezra was still full of questions about who Darth Vader was, questions that Ahsoka, who had the answers, denied.
Journey With Pheonix Squadron
Meeting the Clones
In the wake of the destruction of the Phoenix Home, the Rebel network faced a shortage of bases and facilities. When Ezra suggested that the Phoenix rebel cell seek shelter on a remote system, Ahsoka counseled him and his companions to seek out an old friend, a former Republic captain named Rex. Ezra and the crew of the Ghost traveled to the desert world of Seelos, but after exiting hyperspace, the Ghost was damaged. While Hera and Chopper stay behind to repair the freighter, Ezra, and the other rebels travel down to Seelos on the Phantom. After traveling for some distance, the rebels spot an antiquated AT-TE walker in the distance and disembark from the Phantom so they could meet its occupants, whom they discovered were Clone commanders. Following a near conflict sparked by Kanan's distrust of Clone troopers, they are greeted by Rex, who promptly breaks up the fight. Ezra mentions that he and his companions have been sent by Ahsoka to look for Rex, so Rex welcomed them as friends and introduced his companions, Wolffe and Gregor. While Rex and Gregor are friendly, Wolffe remains hostile to the rebels. Inside the walker, Ezra tried to convince the Clone commanders to join their fight against the Empire. Rex refused, stating that his life as a soldier was over. Kanan then asked the Clones whether he knew about any abandoned bases and facilities that the Rebel network could use. Gregor offers to supply them with the information in return that the rebels participate in a hunt for Joopas. Kanan remains aloof and distrustful of the clones and recounts the Jedi Purge, which Rex explains that he and his fellow clones had removed their brain control chips, which allowed them to ignore Order 66.
After a dangerous but successful hunt for a Joopa, the rebels reluctantly stayed for dinner. Unfortunately, Sabine discovered that Wolffe had secretly contacted the Empire and hidden Ahsoka's communications with the clones. Wolffe has acted on a mistaken belief that he was protecting his fellow clones from Imperial retribution, but Rex confronted him and convinced him that the rebels were their friends. Later, an Imperial probe droid damaged the Phantom before Rex destroyed it. With the Empire now alerted to their presence on Seelos, the rebels made preparations to leave. As agreed, Rex supplied the rebels with a data chip listing Republic bases in the Outer Rim and asked to stay behind and hold the Empire back. Agent Kallus arrived with three AT-AT walkers, which outgunned and outnumbered the clone's lone AT-TE. This assault coincided with the arrival of a sandstorm, which prevented the rebels from departing. However, Ezra and Kanan could still see through the Force. While Kanan guided the clones in their AT-TE, Ezra used the walker's main cannon to destroy one of the AT-ATs with one blast to the neck. After the dust-storm cleared, the rebels left on the Phantom, but Ezra persuaded Kanan to return and help the clones. As Sabine flew the Phantom, Ezra, Kanan and Zeb commandeered one of the AT-ATs and used it to damage Kallus' walker, which trapped the clones' walker. Kallus and the surviving Imperials were to forced to retreat, and out of gratitude, Rex and the clones saluted Ezra and Kanan, agreeing to join the Rebellion.
Encountering Double Trouble
Ezra continued his Jedi training under Kanan and was instructed to levitate Chopper with the Force. However, Chopper and Sabine decided to play a trick on the young Jedi by locking Chopper's feet to the Ghost's metallic floor. Despite Ezra's best efforts, he was unable to lift the astromech droid. In frustration, Ezra gave up only for Rex to expose Chopper and Sabine's prank. When Hera assigned Sabine, Zeb, and Chopper to retrieve supplies from an abandoned Republic medical station, Ezra snuck off with them to avoid getting involved in Kanan and Rex's argument over lack of discipline and plenty of wits.
Once they arrived and had Chopper power up the station, Ezra, Sabine, and Zeb searched for the supplies, unaware that their presence had attracted the attention of two recently dispatched Inquisitors, The Fifth Brother and The Seventh Sister. After her ID9 seeker droids incapacitated Chopper, the Sister lured Ezra and Sabine into a hallway. Ezra engaged the Sister in a duel but proved no match for the Mirialan. The Brother then joined the fight, and Ezra opened a shut door for Sabine to escape through. The Brother prepared to kill him, but the Sister stopped him and convinced him to use him as a bait to capture the others.
Later, as the Sister interrogated the young Jedi about the rebel fleet and Ahsoka, the Brother returned with a captured Sabine. They tried to coerce Ezra into contacting his fellow rebels, but he refused. Eventually, Zeb contacted him after rescuing Chopper, posing as "Commander Meiloorun" and offering them support. To avoid endangering Zeb, Ezra refused to reply, but when the Brother threatened to decapitate Sabine, he reluctantly complied. He and Sabine were herded into hangar bay six by their Inquisitor captors, so Zeb created a commotion with the Phantom that enabled Ezra and Sabine to break free of their captors' clutches and board the attack shuttle. Following a brief struggle, the four rebels escaped with the medical supplies and back to the rebel fleet. Upon returning to the Ghost, they informed Kanan, Hera, and Rex about their encounter with the two Inquisitors. This news came as a shock to Kanan, who was unaware that there was more than one Inquisitor.
Working With A Pirate
Later, the crew of the Ghost and Rex set up a base on Garel, and Ezra eventually skipped one of his Jedi lessons with Kanan to attend a blaster training session taught by Rex. When Kanan discovered this, he argued with Rex whether Ezra's future lay as a soldier or Jedi, which Ezra responded that if that's how it's gonna go, he'll wish to be neither. During a meeting on the Ghost, Hera announced that they will be embarking on a mission to supply power fuel cells to bring to Rinn, which was having an energy crisis and left Ezra and Chopper behind to clean up the ship. During the chores, both boy and droid received a distress call from Vizago and departed on the Phantom to locate Vizago's ship, the Broken Horn, where they met Hondo Ohnaka, who claimed to have won the ship from Vizago in a sabaac match. Distrusting the Weequay, Ezra claimed to be Lando, and when Imperials attacked the ship, he had Chopper power up the engines to make their jump into hyperspace. After escaping, Ezra agreed to help Hondo sell several power generators to a buyer on Nixus in return for two of the generators and half of the proceeds. Unknown to Hondo, Ezra also stole the controller for Vizago's droids and hands it to Chopper for safekeeping.
Upon arriving at the black market spaceport Nixus Hub 218, the two discovered that the buyer was Azmorigan, who was expecting Vizago instead and had them loaded into a loading dolly with the intention of firing them into space. Chopper came to the rescue, creating a commotion that allowed Ezra to free himself and use his lightsaber to deflect Azmorigan's blaster shots and the Force to save Hondo from being fired into space, thus revealing his identity as a Jedi. As the three departed Nixus, Ezra confided his anxieties about his new responsibilities, but Hondo suggested that he should become a "pirate Jedi".
However, while exploring the brig, Ezra and Chopper found Vizago, who revealed the truth about Hondo's takeover, locked inside one of the cells and freed him before confronting the Weequay on the bridge. Ezra tried to propose a deal between the two criminals, with him taking the generators and the two criminals sharing the proceeds among themselves, but Vizago stole his droid controller back and used it to summon his droids to attack the three intruders. Hondo escaped aboard the Phantom with the stolen proceeds and Vizago dispatched Ezra and Chopper back to Garel in an escape pod. Returning to the Ghost, Padawan and droid found Hondo among the rebels and discovered that the Phantom's autopilot had been programmed to return to its mothership. The rebels took the power generators and allowed Hondo to keep the proceeds. Ezra rejoined his rebel companions after bidding the pirate farewell.
Mission to Ibaar
Ezra and his fellow rebels later participated in a mission to transport relief supplies to Ibaar, which was blockaded by an Imperial fleet commanded by Agent Kallus. Following the failure of the first attempt which result in the destruction of a rebel transport and the death of the Pheonix leader, the crew of the Ghost embarked on a mission to contact the engineer Quarrie, who lived on Shantipole, which was inaccessible to many spacers. The Mon Calamari in question was said to have just recently developed the B-Wing Starfighter, which could break the blockade in one fell swoop. While Hera, Sabine, and Zeb traveled to Shantipole in the Phantom, Kanan, Ezra. and Chopper rendezvoused with a transport ship to pick up supplies for their second attempt to break the blockade.
When Hera didn't return and Kanan suggested to use the Ghost to transport the supplies, an alarmed Ezra advised against it, knowing that it would make the Ghost an easy target for the Empire. Despite the dangers, Kanan argued that the people of Ibaar was counting on them and they could not give up. Despite Kanan coming Hera, there was still no sign of her and the other crew when the Ghost and the rest of the Phoenix fleet converged on Ibaar. Fortunately for Ezra and the other Ghost crew, they were quickly joined by the Phoenix, which was carrying the B-Wing on its back. Using the starfighter, Hera destroyed an Arquitens-class light cruiser. This enabled the Ghost to travel through the gap in the Imperial blockade and drop its supplies down to the Ibaarians. Following the successful relief of Ibaar, Hera was promoted as the new Pheonix leader at Kanan's recommendation.
Mishap at Garel City
Later, Hera assigned Ezra to accompany Sabine and Chopper on a mission to pick up a courier carrying sensitive information at Garel City's spaceport. While they did not know how the courier looked like, the rebels were told that the individual would respond to the code phrase: "It's a long way to Alderaan." and ordered to deliver him to the Havoc Station. On the way to the spaceport, Ezra voiced his views about Sabine's personal habits to her. He noted that she seemed to be a loner because she usually handled her missions alone, stayed in her room a lot and ate alone. However, Sabine did not respond since she was preoccupied with the mission, eventually noticing a strange but familiar symbol painted on the spaceport's wall. After eleven hours greeting any embarking passenger they were expecting the phrase from, Ezra discovered that the courier was a GNK power droid named EG-86, who had come with the cargo. Unfortunately, the three rebels learned that the Black Sun syndicate had also found the droid useful, and were cornered by the Black Sun agent assigned for the opposing mission, who happened to be the symbol's owner: Ketsu Onyo, a former classmate of Sabine at the Imperial Academy on Mandalore who had fallen out with Sabine, and is now working for the Sun to collect EG-86.
However, Sabine was unwilling to allow Ketsu to take EG-86. Before a showdown could take place, the two parties were visited by a squad of Stormtroopers. A three-way battle broke out and the rebels managed to board a shuttle with EG-86 in tow. While taking-off, Ezra was hit by laser fire and fell out of the shuttle's side door. While Sabine and Chopper continued the mission and reached a truce with Ketsu, Ezra evaded the Stormtroopers and made his way back to the Ghost. He and Hera were present to greet the made-up friends, at their Garel base. When Ezra tried to make conversation with both Sabine and Ketsu, the two girls indicated that they wanted to talk in a clique and kept Ezra out of the conversation. After Ketsu left, Ezra asked Sabine if that was the last they'll see of her. Sabine answered "No", and was glad of it.
Escaping the Imperial Interdictor
Following the disappearance of a rebel patrol in the Del Zennis system, Hera suggested to Commander Jun Sato that Ezra's Jedi powers would be of help to the mission, so they have Ezra accompany Sato on a mission to find the lost patrol. While traveling through hyperspace, Ezra sensed a sudden disturbance in the Force. Shortly later, Sato's CR90 corvette was pulled out of hyperspace by an Imperial Interdictor, a prototype warship equipped with four gravity well projectors. Commander Sato managed to send a distress signal before the corvette lost all power and was dragged into the ventral hangar of the Interdictor and boarded by Imperial forces, who took them, prisoner. Ezra and Commander Sato were then escorted by Stormtroopers to the Interdictor's command bridge where they encountered the ship's commanding officer, Admiral Brom Titus. While Sato protested that they were members of the Corporate Alliance, Titus was not fooled and quickly recognized them both and informed Agent Kallus of his catch. Despite Kallus' warnings not to underestimate the teenage Jedi, Admiral Titus was skeptical that Ezra could pose a threat to his ship and crew. He ordered three Stormtroopers to escort Ezra to a secure cell. On the way, Ezra freed himself by using the Force to levitate his lightsaber from the leading Stormtrooper's belt, overpowering him with the other troopers and locking him all in his cell. Almost immediately, Ezra was approached by two more Stormtroopers and stunned them with his lightsaber-blaster, but when he spotted a disguised Chopper laughing at him about the two shots, he quickly realized that he had knocked out his own master and Captain Rex, who were sent by Hera to rescue him, Sato, and Sato's crew.
When Kanan and Rex awoke, Ezra attempted to claim that they were knocked out in a massive fire fight, but Chopper played a holographic recording of what really happened. While Kanan was outraged that his apprentice had shot him, Rex laughed it off. The two got into an argument about how to proceed with their rescue mission, Ezra left to accompany Chopper on his mission to sabotage the Interdictor's gravity well projectors. Since the reactor core was manned by Imperial technicians, Chopper instructed Ezra to distract them while the droid accessed one of the terminals and turned off the gravity, thus preventing the technicians from firing on Ezra. With the handy work done, Chopper switched back the gravity causing he technicians to plummet while Ezra managed to grab a platform. Together, the two rejoined Kanan, Sato, and the other crew. While Kanan went back to rescue Rex, Ezra, Chopper, and the other rebels returned to Sato's corvette and took off under Kanan's instructions through the comlink. With Kanan and Rex safely boarding the corvette in an escape pod, the rebels prepared to jump into hyperspace but Titus had the remaining gravity well projectors activated on them. However, due to Chopper's sabotaging, the well projectors malfunctioned; causing two nearby Imperial light cruisers to collide with the warship, destroying them. Ezra and the rebels avoided the ensuing explosion and fled into hyperspace. When Chopper pointed out that he was the big hero of the mission, Ezra mollified the astromech droid by telling him it was a team effort as well. When Commander Sato thanked Kanan, Rex, and Ezra for saving him and his crew, Ezra complimented Kanan and Rex's teamwork.
Rescuing Force-Sensitive Infants
During a visit from Ahsoka on Garel, Ezra eavesdropped on a conversation between her and Kanan in Kanan's cabin. Eventually, Ahsoka has been investigating Darth Vader and his Inquisitors and discovered that the Inquisitors' secondary mission was to kidnap Force-sensitive infants, thus obtaining two sets of coordinates. While she went to investigate the first, she assigned Kanan to look at the second set, which Kanan indicated that Ezra should come along, since he was aware that his apprentice was eavesdropping and slid the door open to reveal him on the other side. Along with Zeb and Chopper, Ezra and Kanan traveled on the Phantom to the settlement of Hammertown on Takobo. There, Zeb and Chopper stayed behind at the spaceport to search for any sign of the Inquisitors while Ezra and Kanan investigated the housing unit revealed to be the home of an Ithorian named Oora, who had already sent her infant son Pypey into hiding with a courier droid as soon as the Fifth Brother and the Seventh Sister showed up and ransacked the home searching for him. Ezra vowed that they'll the child safe. The two Jedi later learned that Zeb and Chopper had discovered the Fifth Brother and the Seventh Sister's TIE Fighters and rescued another infant from Ahsoka's coordinates named Alora. While Chopper babysat Alora, Zeb went to intercept the courier droid before the Inquisitors could get their hands on Pypey and recovered him just as they pursued. Fleeing into an apartment block, he contacted Ezra and Kanan, who traveled rejoin their companion only for Ezra to discover one of the Sister's seeker droids hovering at the entrance.
Evading the seeker droid and the Inquisitors, the Jedi rendezvoused with Zeb in an apartment room, but Ezra's presence unsettled the child since he could sense the teenager's fear, thus alerting the Inquistors of their presence. As the Brother and Sister poked their lightsabers through the apartment floor, the rebels fled into the hallway as Ezra struggled to calm the baby and decided to split up. While Kanan and Zeb confronted the Inquisitors, Ezra climbed into the ventilation shaft with Pypey, finally managing to calm the infant down by connecting with him through the Force. However, the Inquisitors had by that stage pinpointed his location and attempted to flush him out with their lightsabers, but Kanan and Zeb stopped them before they could finish their work. This gave Ezra a chance to escape the building with Pypey. While exiting the apartment block, Ezra commented that the child was welcome to visit them on Garel, unknowingly letting this comment gets picked up by the Sister's seeker droid. He reunited with Zeb and Kanan at the spaceport, but despite coming Chopper, they were unable to open the gates. The Inquisitors then caught up with them, but Ezra refused to give up Pypey despite being outmatched. Before the Inquisitors could deal with him, Ahsoka exited the spaceport and bested the Inquisitors in a duel. In the meantime, Ezra and his companions took the opportunity to fly aboard the Phantom, then rescued Ahsoka from an Imperial patrol and fled into hyperspace. While in space, the rebels learned from Ahsoka that a similar attempt had been made to abduct children during the Clone Wars. Unknown to Ezra, the Inquisitors had learned through his offhand remark that the rebels were hiding on Garel.
Making Peace with the Past
While sleeping on his bunk aboard the Ghost, Ezra experienced a Force vision of his parents, an impending Imperial attack on Garel and a white Loth-cat leading him to a hooded man who opened fire on the boy. After falling out of his bed, Ezra alerted Hera and Kanan. Hera finally agreed to disclose what Tseebo had told her about Ezra's parents: his parents were alive but were imprisoned within the vast network of Imperial prisons that spanned the galaxy. Despite calling every favor from smugglers, rebels, and their contacts, Hera had been unable to pinpoint the exact location of Ezra's parents. Ezra thanked Hera for sharing this information and returned to his bunk to view a hologram of his parents. Later that morning, Hera and Kanan received word from Commander Sato that there had been a breakout at the Imperial prison on Lothal and obtained a list of the prisoners at the facility. Believing that one of the prisoners could help them find Ezra's parents, Kanan instructed his apprentice to use the Force to probe the list with his vision. At his master's instructions, Ezra replayed his vision until it stopped at the part with the hooded man, causing the list to stop on an inmate known as Prisoner X-10. After Sabine informed that she had received intelligence that the Imperial fleet was withdrawing from Lothal, Ezra took it as a sign that he should go to Lothal. Kanan convinced Ezra to let the rest of the crew of the Ghost come with him.
Hera contacted Zeb and Chopper from their errand at the Garel City marketplace to tell them to come aboard, but Lasat and droid found themselves pursued by several Stormtroopers. This coincided with the appearance of an Imperial fleet above the city which had come to crush the rebel presence there. Ezra and Kanan helped Zeb and Chopper back to the Ghost by exchanging fire with their Stormtrooper pursuers. When Agent Kallus arrived, Ezra used the Force to hurl Kallus and his men against the wall. But at that point, the Seventh Sister and Fifth Brother arrived and goaded Ezra into attacking them, but before Ezra could strike them, Kanan used his blaster to shut the blast doors; separating the boy from the Inquisitors. This gave Ezra and his fellow rebels the window they needed to escape aboard the Ghost. Once airborne, Ezra along with Kanan and Chopper entered the Phantom and detached it so they head to Lothal while Hera, Sabine and Zeb stayed behind aboard the Ghost to evacuate the Phoenix Squadron off-world, even when the Liberator was almost caught in the Star Destroyer Relentless's tractor beam. Spotting a gap in the Imperial fleet, Ezra and Kanan took the chance to flee into hyperspace and exit above Lothal, landing the Phantom in Capital City. There, they visit Ezra's old home only to discover that the Empire had razed it to the ground. However, while meditating through the Force, Ezra sensed the presence of the white loth-cat he had seen in his vision inside the ruins and approached it. Frightened, the cat led the two Jedi on a wild pursuit through the city streets, with Ezra using the Force to leap over buildings. Before he could corner the animal, it fled on the back of a speeder bike into the wilderness, but Ezra managed to plant a locator on the speeder before it disappeared.
Using the locator, he, Kanan, and Chopper tracked the speeder bike and the loth-cat to a cluster of large hives outside Capital City, where they were held at gunpoint by a hooded man whom Ezra recognizes as Prisoner X-10. Ezra manages to placate the man by mentioning his parents, prompting the man to take off his hood and introduce himself as Ryder Azadi, a former Governor of Lothal who was imprisoned by the Empire for supporting the Bridgers' anti-Imperial broadcasts. Back at his hideout, Ryder explained that Ezra's parents had heard the broadcast Ezra sent out with the Ghost crew's help a while back and were inspired by it to stage a prison breakout. Unfortunately, they died during the escape attempt. Later that night, Ezra experienced another Force vision where he is visited by both his parents, who commended him for his achievements and urged him to stay strong. When Ezra related his vision to Kanan, his mentor told him that the Jedi believed that life did not end with death but merely changed form. He also consoled Ezra by telling him that his parents will always be with him.
Rendezvous With A Royal Guest
While in contact with Hera, the news about what happened to Ezra's parents had left the rest of the rebels sorry for him. Luckily, Hera had some good news. She told Ezra and Kanan that Senator Organa heard about their losses on Garel and sent reinforcements to the rebellion on three Hammerhead corvettes captained by his adoptive daughter, Leia. Despite his grief over the loss of his parents, Ezra was up for the mission to rendezvous with the Princess in Jalath City, only to find the being guarded by Imperial forces led by Lothal's Imperial supply master, Yogar Lyste. So, to avoid being recognized, they disguised themselves as a stormtrooper and cadet and mingled into one of the ships as Leia disembarked from it. From there, the disguised Jedi eavesdropped on Lyste's conversation with the princess as the Imperial told her that he was aware that her ships seem to get "stolen" by the rebels quite frequently and, to make that impossible, placed double security around the ships and had his men attach three gravity locks onto each, deploying a detachment of Stormtroopers around the area with two AT-AT walkers. Leia assured him that all of this was unnecessary but Lyste remained insistent, so she requested in taking his landing craft so she could start on her relief work, with Ezra and Kanan accompanying her. As the three of them departed in the craft, Leia’s plan became more complicated, because Ezra asked why they didn't give the cruisers in deep space, she explained to him that if they did, the Empire would suspect Alderaan for helping the rebels and label them as traitors. But if the rebel Jedi alone stole the ships on a planet controlled by the Empire, that wouldn't happen.
They returned to Ryder's hideout only to find a group of Stormtroopers arresting Ryder and Chopper, so Ezra and Kanan, still in their Stormtrooper disguises, offered to take them back to prison. However, the troopers were given orders to execute Ryder, but before matters got worse the Ghost showed up flew out of nowhere and a brief skirmish broke out. In order to get to the Ghost without raising suspicion, Ezra helped Ryder fake Leia's abduction and asked Zeb "knock out" him and Kanan and take them "prisoner" aboard the ship. This development startled the Imperials, who wondered when the rebels began to take prisoners. While reviewing the nature of the situation, neither Ezra nor his fellow Ghost crew saw any chance of success except getting one of the ships instead of all three. Leia, however, motivated the crew by saying how they could get them, and a plan to get all three ships began to form. To Ezra's delight, Ryder joined in, saying that explosives would not be able to disable the gravity locks and offered his help in exchange for getting off of Lothal. Dropping down from the Phantom with Leia in tow, Ezra and Kanan took on Lyste and his men while the other rebels unlocked two of the secured ships and took off in them, knocking the supply master out cold. However, the AT-ATs proved resistant to the Ghost's armament, so Ezra was asked by his master to secure the third corvette for Ryder while he dealt the walkers. Then, while taking off in the second corvette with Sabine and Chopper, the boy bade farewell to Leia and was directed to stun her with his lightsaber blaster to avoid suspicion. Sure enough, he did so just as Lyste and the others regain their senses, prompting the Imperials to see if she was all right. Escaping into hyperspace and back to the rebel fleet, the Ghost crew were pleased that they managed to get all three ships, and Ryder, now realizing that what Ezra's parents started had become even larger then he thought, agreed to join the rebellion for their son's sake.
Trouble with the Concord Dawn Protectors
The Ghost crew eventually received word about Hera and Sabine's failed mission to seek permission for safe passage through the Concord Dawn system from the system's Protectors. Apparently, the Protectors' leader, Commander Fenn Rau, had already aligned his warriors with the Empire and attacked Hera's Phoenix Squadron fleet, destroying several of their A-Wing Starfighters and gravely wounding Hera. When Hera had to be hospitalized, Ezra did his best to comfort Sabine when she started blaming herself for their friend's injuries and vowed to seek justice against the Protectors. During her report on Rau though, she suggested destroy the Protectors' Fang Fighters so they no longer posed a threat to the fleet, since she had tracked them to the third moon of Concord Dawn.
Kanan, however, who remembered Rau as a fighter instructor pilot for the Republic who he and his master fought alongside in the third Battle of Mygeeto during the Clone Wars, suggested that they infiltrate the base and destroy the Fang fighters before approaching with the fleet. Ezra and Zeb expressed interest in accompanying him for the mission, but Kanan planned to go alone because he didn't want to risk any more of his crew members. While Ezra was upset, he eventually complied with his master's orders with the Lasat. Chopper, who was the only one chosen for the mission, grumbled at it and punched the boy with one of his mechanical arms in protest. Despite Kanan's orders, Sabine snuck along, probably making Ezra worried. Ultimately, the mission became a success since not only did the rebels succeeded in destroying the Gauntlets and earn permission to pass through the system but also in capturing Rau.
Transporting Lasat Refugees
Upon receiving a tip from one of his contacts, Ezra led his fellow rebels on a rescue mission to Nixus Hub 218, where two refugees were being held prisoner by the Empire. They arrived to find the refugees being led out of a cargo container at gunpoint, and the Ghost crew immediately caught a glimpse of who they were: a Lasat warrior named Gron and Lasat shaman named Chava the Wise. This shocked Zeb, who believed himself to be the last of the Lasat, and the rebels quickly attacked the Stormtroopers and Imperial officer in order to free the prisoners. They were afterward greeted by the contact, who turned out to be Hondo, and Gron turned out to have fought in the Lasan Honor Guard with Zeb as his captain, much to Zeb's discomfort. His fellow rebels were surprised, as he never told them that he was captain of the Honor Guard, but the Lasat dismissed it, saying only that it was a long time and he had forgotten that life. With reinforcements bound to show up, the crew began the return trip back to the Ghost. Hondo asked for the payment Ezra had promised only to discover that the boy deceived him, leaving the Weequay pirate proud of his young friend. While heading back to the ship, Ezra asked Chava about where they were headed, and she told him they were on a journey to their new world, Lirasan, which was described in the prophecy as a safe system to begin a new life. Zeb did not believe in prophecies, however, nor did he believe in a future for his people. As this was discussed, Ezra was contacted by Hondo that their presence had been noticed that a squad of Stormtroopers that showed up and began a firefight, cornering them in the Nixus halls. To save his friend, Hondo quietly sealed a few doors, cutting many of the Stormtroopers off from Ezra as he tried holding them back with his lightsaber blaster. With that done for them, the rebels fought their way back to the Ghost and took off, departing and escaping into hyperspace just as Kallus arrived in an Imperial light cruiser.
Safely in hyperspace, the Ghost crew learned from Chava that she did not know the location of Lirasan as it was uncharted and from an ancient Lasat legend. In order to find it, the galaxy's spirit, the "Ashla", prophecised that "the child" must first save "the warrior" and "the fool". While the warrior was assumed to be Zeb, the child was assumed to be Ezra, who commented that the Ashla sounded like the Force, which according to Kanan had many names. The boy immediately participated in the ritual designed by Chava to guide her and Gron to their world but noticed Zeb remaining distant as if he did not want any part of it. Puzzled by his friend's reluctance, Ezra left the ritual preparations and spoke to him as the Lasat explained his guilt for failing to protect his people from the Empire. As captain of the Honor Guard, he was responsible for protecting the royal family and all the Last. Though he fought to the end when the Empire attacked the royal palace, Lasan was lost and most of the Lasat were killed by a nuclear bomb. Despite his friend's guilt and shame, Ezra encouraged Zeb to take this opportunity to protect his people again by helping Chava and Gron find Lirasan. This encouragement helped the Lasat to overcome his guilt and participate in the ritual, where it was revealed that he was the child. Instructed by Gron to assemble his bo-rifle in the way the ancient Lasan Honor Guard once did to interact with Chava's staff, to Ezra's amazement, Zeb used the tip to create a surge of electricity on a map of the galaxy activated by Chopper, that pointed to an uncharted world in Wild Space. Realizing the prophecy could be true, the rebels plotted a course beyond the Outer Rim.
Unfortunately, the crew were forced to bring the Ghost out of hyperspace due to an imploded star cluster that's gravity field could destroy any approaching ship, which Chava recognized as the "maze to Lirasan", standing in their path. Then, Agent Kallus' light cruiser emerged behind them thanks to a captured Hondo's assistance with a tracker the pirate place on the communications device he gave Ezra. As Kallus gave them a minute to surrender or be attacked, Chava immediately stated that he was the warrior and advised that there are many children, warriors and fools, but in time Zeb would get the chance to become all three. Realizing it was his destiny to lead the way to Lirasan, Zeb used his bo-rifle to take control of the ship's controls and shepherd the Ghost through the maelstrom, with Ezra and Kanan using the Force to watch his back and keep the electric surge steady on the ship. Losing patience, Kallus sent two TIE fighters to pursue them, but they were ripped apart by the gravitational tide of the star cluster. So, the light cruiser opened fire on the Ghost and each blast kept missing the ship, and thus the Ghost miraculously jumped into hyperspace through the star cluster, knocking Ezra and his fellow crewmates out due to its bright blast. Upon awaking, the Ghost crew found themselves in unknown space but sighted Lirasan in the horizon and Zeb left on the Phantom to drop Gron and Chava there. After hours of waiting, Ezra began to loose patience until the Lasat finally returned, having discovered that the planet was the original Lasat homeworld and that it was already home to millions of Lasat. While Chava and Gron elected to stay behind on their new home, Zeb decided to return to the Ghost resolving to bring more Lasat to Lirasan as he, Ezra, and their rebel companions departed via a safe route that Hera had plotted through the star cluster.
Attacking the Mining Guild with Purrgil
When the Rebellion began suffering a fuel crisis, the Ghost crew was sent to retrieve a refining fuel meant for the Empire from a mining organization known as the Mining Guild, which was enough shipment to fuel the rebel fleet for a full cycle. Running on fumes, the rebels arrived at the asteroid belt of where the Guild's Gas Refinery was, but due to the field scrambling their sensors finding the facility would not be easy. In order to keep the Ghost moving, Ezra and the others were forced to reserve all power to the engines, leaving them with limited fire-power and little heating. Already the rebels were feeling the cold of space, but then Ezra began to hear strange sirens that he described sounded sad. Nobody else could hear anything until straight ahead, he and his rebel colleagues hey spotted a swarm of Purrgil coming towards them. As the Purrgil passed the Ghost, Ezra was amazed by the creatures but Hera showed caution, and a few of them collided with the ship. She was prepared to open fire in order to draw them away, but Kanan objected as they could not waste their fire-power and advised to let them pass, but she remained insistent. Ezra suggested flying with them instead of against them, that way they would not get bashed around so much or need to waste their power reserves. The other crewmates agreed to that idea, and Hera reluctantly turned the ship about to flew alongside the creatures. The Purrgil themselves began to calm down and started to fly along with the Ghost, and Ezra spotted one of them coming up alongside, noticing that it was looking at him. As Hera went on saying how menacing the Purgil were, the boy tried to connect with the one staring at him through the Force, but sensed that something was upsetting it. He was proven correct when two Mining Guild TIE Fighters came closing in. Despite running on fumes and having their power supply dangerously low, both Ezra and his master still managed to take out both fighters. Suspecting they must've come from the refinery, the Ghost crew decided track where they originated from so the could find their way there. Ezra began to notice something that he could not figure out when the Purrgil changed direction and flew away from the Ghost, and suggested they follow them, but Hera objected. Sabine, however managed to pinpoint where the fighters originated from, and to both her and Hera’s surprise, it was where the Purrgil were heading.
While the rest of the crew were heading to their cabins to ensure everything was switched off to save every little bit of fuel, Hera confided with Ezra about her prejudices towards the Purrgil in private. When she was young, she was told about amazing stories of creatures living in the stars, and some folks said that is the Purrgil that inspired them to jump into hyperspace from system to system. But Hera didn't believe them; Purrgil endangered hyperspace travel by colliding into starships. She had lost more than one friend that way. In response, Ezra suggested that Purrgil were ignorant of the damage they were causing. Shortly later, the Ghost arrived at an asteroid overlooking the gas refinery and parked near it, and Ezra attended the briefing where Hera and Sabine outlined their plans to infiltrate the facility and steal the gas canisters. The rebels would also destroy the facility by using detonators to ignite the volatile Clouzon-36 gas around the refinery in order to deny it to the Empire. Ezra was too distracted by the Purrgil to concentrate on the briefing and attempted to tell Hera that the Purrgil were interested in the gas, but the captain told him to focus on his mission. While at the Ghost's gangplank, the boy asked how they were going to get down, prompting a reprimand from Sabine for not paying attention since they were jumping into a toxic atmosphere in the planetoid below. While Kanan, Sabine and Chopper managed to land on the bridge, Ezra miscalculated and almost fell into the gassy atmosphere below, but Kanan used the Force to pull up and reprimand his apprentice. Shortly later, Ezra and his fellow rebels were attacked by several Rodian Mining Guild guards. Under Kanan's orders, Sabine activated the detonators, but Ezra stopped her from throwing at the gas as they made their way across the bridge and used the Force to throw down a Rodian gunner. When confronted by his comrades, Ezra explained that the Purrgil were connected to the gas, so blowing it up would only hurt them. Changing their plans, Kanan ordered him to man the gun emplacement to cover him and Sabine while they secured the landing zone. During the ensuing skirmish, Ezra used his cannon to knock out one of the other gun and drive away the other guards, enabling Hera and Zeb to land the Ghost onto the landing platform. Unfortunately, a laser blast from the remaining guard hit the boy and sent him plummeting into the the gassy atmosphere.
When he awoke, he found himself unable to breathe and tried to reach for his helmet, but it toppled into the abyss below. However, a tentacle grabbed it and Ezra discovered that he had been rescued by the Purrgil King. Donning the helmet, Ezra stared into its eyelid and was able to make a Force connection with it, from which learned that the Purrgil depended on the Clouzon-36 gas to survive and to travel into hyperspace. Together with the Purrgil herd, Ezra came to his fellow rebels' rescue from the Mining Guild and their leader, Yushyn, covering them by using his lightsaber to destroy the TIE fighters while riding the Purrgil King. As the Ghost crew stole all the fuel canisters and destroyed the refinery, the teenage Jedi caught up with them and met with Kanan on the ship's roof after the king dropped him off and led its people in departing into hyperspace. Watching this in awe, the rebels departed in the same direction and back to the fleet, hoping if it meant following the Purrgil again.
Business With Hera's Father
Following an escape from Imperial forces with one casualty, the rebellion began losing more pilots in battle faster than they could replace them, and until they could find a base they needed somewhere to land their fighters. Ezra eavesdropped on a meeting between his master, Hera and Commander Sato, in which Sato suggested to solve both problems, and brought up a report from a cell of Twi'lek rebels on the planet Ryloth about an Imperial carrier orbiting their homeworld. The Phoenix Squadron believed they could steal that ship and use it to house all of their fighters. Hera became familiar with the rebel cell in question, and personally made contact with their leader, who was also her father Cham Syndulla, a hero in the Clone Wars. However, she was somewhat reluctant to speak with him but understood the Rebellion's need for that carrier. Ezra and the rest of the Ghost crew accompanied her to meet with Cham and two of his colleagues, Numa and Gobi Glie, and after an awkward welcoming, they moved to the mission briefing where Hera outlined her plan to steal the fighter carrier, which involved using a stolen TIE bomber to infiltrate the starship. Her father, though, insisted on destroying fighter carrier since it had been used to terrorize Ryloth and to demonstrate the Ryloth rebels' strength but agreed to support his daughter's plan after Hera pointed out that the two cells depended on each other for the mission to succeed. Later on, Ezra asked her about her relationship with her father while she was fixing Chopper. Hera explained that during the Clone Wars, Cham fought alongside the Jedi to free Ryloth from the Separatists, but after the Republic became the Empire and refused to leave, he started to fight them. But when Hera's mother was killed in the resistance, Ryloth’s freedom became more important to Cham than his own family. That left Hera feeling like an outcast and prompted her to join the rebellion, a decision that her father became disgusted about since he really wanted his daughter to be by his side in liberating their homeworld.
By the time the arrived in Ryloth's atmosphere in the TIE bomber being carried by a Twi’lek rebel ship, the rebels detached and piloted towards the orbiting carrier as it dispatched a squadron of bombers down to the surface. In order to board the ship without raising suspicion, two A-Wings emerged from hyperspace and commenced a staged attack on the Rebel’s bomber, slightly damaging it before retreating. To make it look good, Hera deliberately crashed the burning bomber into one of the carrier’s hangers. She, Ezra, and their rebel companions survived, but the Ghost crew were suddenly double-crossed by Cham and his colleagues, who still went with their own plan to destroy the carrier. When Ezra, Sabine, Zeb, and Kanan awoke due to a still awake and handcuffed Hera breaking free and getting them up, they proceeded with their mission in commandeering the carrier, as well stop Cham from destroying it. Ezra went with his master and Hera to the ship's bridge and hold its crew at gunpoint, but was informed by their commander that he already contacted reinforcements and was ordered to stay on the carrier once they arrive. Using the Force, the teenage Jedi mind controlled him into ordering the crew to abandon ship anyway. Pretty soon, the entire carrier was evacuated, and Sabine and Zeb had Numa and Gobi in custody after taking them out with a rigged mouse droid. The carrier was now under their control, but thanks to Cham, the hyperdrive was disabled so they couldn't escape with the ship. As Imperial reinforcements moved in, Hera tried to reason with her father, but Cham remained unconvinced until his daughter she reminded him how he was an inspiration to herself and the people of Ryloth, but she was fighting for everyone in the galaxy besides her own people. Touched by Hera’s words, Cham decided to follow her lead and everyone was back on the original plan. With reinforcements closing in and the hyperdrive under repairs, Ezra gave his fellow rebels a hand on shooting down the TIE bombers when the returned and attacked, causing minor damage to the carrier. They nearly lost control but both Hera and Cham managed to stabilize the ship. Nearby, an Imperial light cruiser was coming after them, but Ezra Force-pushed a TIE bomber that Sabine rigged with explosives out of the carrier and let it drift toward the pursuer. This gave Cham the opportunity to use the carrier’s turrets to blow up the bomber and cruiser once they made close contact with each other, thus completing his mission for Ryloth as he and the Ghost crew escaped into hyperspace with the hyperdrive now operational.
Upon returning to the Rebel fleet, Cham had news that his people were rallying against the Empire and before leaving, took his daughter aside to admit how proud he was of her and who she had turned out to be. The Ghost crew watched in pride as he departed with his rebel cell, and Ezra thought in his head on how well he restored an even better relationship between father and daughter, bringing new loyalty and respect for each of the two.
Searching For Zeb Near Geonosis
After rebel intelligence received word that the Empire was conducting mass construction above Geonosis, the crew accompanied Rex there in hopes of finding information on what weapons the Imperials were building. By the time they arrived, their scanners detected no lifeforms on the planet's surface, and Ezra sensed the Force that all life that lived there had been wiped out. This left him and his fellow rebels concerned, especially Zeb. None the less, they proceeded with their investigation and boarded one of the construction modules. Ezra went with Kanan, Sabine, and Zeb to check things out while Hera, Chopper, and Rex stood by with the ship in case anything happened. However, they were unaware that they were stumbling into a trap until Zeb sensed it. The Lasat was proven correct when an Imperial astromech droid locked down the door back to the hangar, and Imperial forces led by Agent Kallus showed up without warning. During the fight, Chopper stopped the Imperial astromech by electrocuting it and reopening all the doors, allowing Ezra and the crew to retreat back to the Ghost.
When the boy noticed that Zeb was still a bo-rifle duel with Kallus, he tried to call him back, but the Last told them to take off without him since he had another way out via an escape pod. As the Ghost launched away with everyone except Zeb aboard, it came under attack by TIE fighters and Walkers. The TIES chased the ship around the construction module and were shot down one at a time. The last TIE was shot down when it chased the Ghost through the hanger bay and collided with an attacking walker. With their attackers defeated, Zeb's escape pod still hadn't shown up, and the rebels calculated that it went off course towards Geonosis. Taking the Phantom, Ezra accompanied his master there to find him, but the Lasat was nowhere on the planet's surface. Returning to the Ghost, the crew had only a day to search for their companion before the Empire showed up searching for Agent Kallus, who nonetheless must've been in the same escape pod fighting him when it crashed. Finally, they were able to pick up a transponder signal coming from one of the Geonosis' moons, Bahryn, and headed there to find Zeb coming toward them nearby, having just worked with Kallus to survive its cold conditions. Ezra suggested to his colleagues that they should head back inside to keep warm, but the Lasat reminded him that they've been standing there for just three minutes as the Ghost took off with its entire crew now all present and accounted for.
Return to the Jedi Temple
After escaping on the backs of Tibidee from another ambush from the Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister on Oosalan Mesa while scouting for a permanent base for the rebel fleet, Ezra and Kanan discussed the threat of the Inquisitors to their efforts to help the rebellion to establish one. To avoid endangering the Phoenix Squadron, Kanan arranged for the Ghost to rendezvous with the Phantom in deep space, and Ezra met up with Ahsoka in her cabin. She showed Ezra a holographic recording of her master Anakin Skywalker, who was exceptionally skilled in lightsaber combat. Shortly after, his master entered the room and discussed the threat posed by the Inquisitors to the rebellion, so they decided to visit the Jedi Temple on Lothal to seek answers. Upon arriving, Ezra and the other Jedi made their way to the Temple while Chopper stayed behind to guard the Phantom. He and Kanan used their Force powers to levitate the Temple open, causing it to reveal another entrance. Once inside, the trio experienced different visions of the Force depending on their needs and circumstances. While Kanan encountered several spectral Jedi Temple Guards under the command of the pre-dark side Grand Inquisitor, Ezra asked Ahsoka about her recollections of Master Yoda. While they were speaking, the boy disappeared and found himself in the same chamber where he had spoken to Yoda earlier.
Since his Force powers had grown, Ezra was able to see Yoda this time; recognizing him as a small, green-skinned alien. Yoda noted that as these powers grow, it would also attract danger. The Padawan asked Yoda whether he had the power to destroy Vader and the Inquisitors, the Grand Master related how the Jedi Order's eagerness to participate in the Clone Wars brought about its demise. When Ezra wondered whether it was wrong for a Jedi to fight or to protect his friends, Yoda explained that he too had fought for many years but was consumed by fear. This surprised the boy, but Yoda counseled him that it was a lifelong challenge to prevent fear from bending into anger. Ezra's conversation with him was interrupted by the arrival of the Inquisitors, who used their powers to force the temple open. Worried that they will find the Jedi inside, he asked Yoda how the Jedi could expect to win if they do not fight back. Yoda responded that the real question was how a Jedi should choose to win, to which the teenage Jedi responded that they already chose to fight. Reluctant, the green alien instructed him to find Malachor before leaving. Awakening from his vision, Ezra joined his companions in fleeing the Jedi Temple before the before the Brother and Sister closed in on them. Fortunately for them, the Inquisitors were held back by several spectral Temple Guards. After escaping the Temple, Ezra, and his fellow Jedi were picked up by Chopper in the Phantom and, once aboard, told them that Master Yoda had told him and asked who Malachor was. Ahsoka responded by revealing that Malachor was not a person but rather a planet.
Leaving Behind Chopper and Finding a New Base
Having located what appeared to be a suitable system for their base, the Ghost crew raided an Imperial depot in order to secure fuel for their carrier. Chopper became separated from the group along the way due to pursuing a replacement leg and ended up commandeering an Imperial cargo ship in his efforts to reach the crew. In the process, he met a new friend, AP-5, who informed the Rebels that the system they intended to occupy had an Imperial fleet lying in wait for them. Fortunately, he also assisted the Rebels in finding a new system for their base: Atollon.
The new location was not without problems, as the Rebels soon discovered it to be home to Krykna Spiders, who abducted Rex. Attempting to rescue him, the Ghost crew split into teams, with Ezra and Kanan working apart from the others due to their imminent departure for Malachor. Ezra later tried to connect with the Krykna through the Force but found himself unable to do so, forcing him and the crew to fight their way through the creatures. Eventually, they discovered that Sensor Beacons drove off the Krykna, and set up a fence of them around the perimeter of Chopper Base to keep them away. Ezra later shared his difficulties with Ahsoka when she arrived to join him and Kanan, remarking that it often seemed that the Force grew more mysterious the more was learned about it.
Visiting a Sith Temple
The "Old Master"
Together with Ahsoka, Kanan, and Chopper, Ezra traveled on the Phantom to Malachor. During the hyperspace journey, Ezra asked Kanan why Rex was worried about them going to Malachor. Kanan and Ahsoka explained that Malachor was considered off-limits by the Jedi, but the former Jedi suggested that the reason why Yoda would send them there is that the planet might have something that would help them to stop the Inquisitors. Ahsoka added that they were seeking knowledge that would help them to defeat the Inquisitors' Sith masters. After descending into Malachor's atmosphere, Chopper reported the presence of another starship, and Ezra spotted a circular Stonehenge of monoliths in the distance. Upon landing, the boy and his companions inspected the monoliths, which were inscribed with writings in an ancient tongue. Despite Ahsoka's warnings, Ezra touched one of the monoliths, causing the Jedi to slide into an underground cavern. There, the three travelers spotted a large pyramidal Sith Temple in the distance. Chopper issued a belated warning about the slip-in, for which Ezra sarcastically thanked the droid.
While approaching the Sith Temple, Ezra and his mentors stumbled upon an ancient battlefield from the Great Scourge of Malachor, littered with fallen lightsabers and the statue-like corpses of the belligerents. From Ahsoka, he learned that the Jedi and Sith had fought on Malachor a long time ago and that both sides had been destroyed. Kanan then hurried his Padawan, who was about to make a snide remark about his master when he suddenly spotted one of the statues moving. This "statue" turned out to be a new Inquisitor, The Eighth Brother, who attacked Ezra and his companions. During the fighting, the Inquisitor fired several bolts with his Double-bladed spinning lightsaber; causing the ground beneath Ezra to cave in. Ezra was separated from his companions, who pursued the Eighth Brother. Once underground, Ezra encountered a mysterious elderly man who called himself the "Old Master". This Old Master was actually the former Sith apprentice Maul, who had become stranded on Malachor several years earlier after his ship crashed. While Ezra initially distrusted the stranger, he agreed to let the Old Master leader him to the temple after he revealed that he was also after the same knowledge that would allow them to destroy the Sith.
While traveling, Ezra befriends the Old Master, who described himself as an enemy of the Inquisitors and their Sith masters. Ezra was able to relate Maul's tragic experience with the Sith to his own experience with the Empire. Upon reaching the temple, the two Force-wielders used their Force powers to force its heavy stone doors open. At the urging of Maul, Ezra tapped into the dark side in order to force their way inside the Temple. Once inside the temple's sanctum, Ezra and Maul teamed up to reach the Sith holocron, which was nestled on a high altar. After a challenging physical ordeal, the two managed to acquire the holocron. Ezra also came to trust Maul after the Force-wielder used his Force powers to levitate him to safety after he had jumped down from the altar.
A Brush with the Darkside
After obtaining the holocron, Ezra and Maul encountered Kanan and Ahsoka fighting the Eighth Brother with the Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister. Despite driving off the Inquisitors, Kanan and Ahsoka were distrustful of Maul. However, Ezra defended Maul and argued they could trust him because he believed Maul's claim that he wanted to use the holocron's knowledge to destroy the Sith. Maul convinced the Jedi and Ahsoka to join forces to bring the holocron to the top of the temple to access this knowledge and to fight Darth Vader, who had been alerted by the Inquisitors to the presence of the Jedi and Maul.
While making their way to the top of the Sith Temple, Kanan pulled Ezra aside at an opportune moment and warned his apprentice that Maul could not be trusted. In response, Ezra defended Maul for realizing his potential as a Force-wielder and accused Kanan of holding his Jedi training back. Shortly later, Ezra was attacked by the Eighth Brother who tried to obtain the Sith holocron. Maul drove off the Inquisitor and convinced the Jedi to split up so that they could delay their opponents. Despite Kanan's disapproval, Ezra agreed to accompany Maul to the top of the Sith Temple.
During the journey, Maul tried to sow discord between Ezra and Kanan by telling the boy that he understood his potential. On the way, they were attacked by the Seventh Sister and her ID9 Seeker Droids. Ezra and Maul managed to defeat the Sister and her droids. Holding her in a Force-grip, Maul urged Ezra to strike the Inquisitor. When Ezra refused, the former Sith killed the Seventh Sister and then admonished Ezra for his hesitancy; warning him that it could cost him or his friends their lives next time. Maul then told Ezra to continue his journey to the temple's obelisk while he went to "help" Kanan and Ahsoka deal with the other Inquisitors.
Ezra complied with Maul's instructions and managed to reach the top of the Sith Temple. There, he planted the holocron into the obelisk and was greeted by a feminine entity known as the "Presence"; who told him that the Temple contained the power to destroy all life. When Ezra protested that this was not what he wanted, Presence told him that she would share the power with someone else more worthy. As Ezra attempted to flee, he was cornered by Darth Vader, who had arrived in his TIE Advanced x1 to access the Temple's knowledge on behalf of the Emperor.
Ezra briefly fought with Vader but was overpowered by the Sith Lord, who destroyed his lightsaber. Before Vader could finish Ezra off, he was joined by Ahsoka. Earlier, Maul had killed the Inquisitors but then betrayed Kanan by blinding him. Despite his blindness, Kanan managed to used his Force powers to push Maul into a chasm. Kanan also instructed Ahsoka to help Ezra. While Vader and Ahsoka fought with their lightsabers, Ezra and his blinded master Kanan worked together to remove the holocron from the temple's explosive; triggering a chain reaction that led to the Sith Temple's implosion.
As the Sith Temple closed in on itself, Ezra and Kanan tried to reach Chopper and the Phantom but were held back by Vader. However, Ahsoka intervened and gave enough time for Ezra and his companions to escape on the Phantom. Ahsoka, however, was unable to join them and was trapped inside the temple with Vader. After the temple imploded, Ezra and Kanan assumed that Ahsoka had perished. During the journey, Ezra wept, prompting Kanan to comfort him. Upon returning to Chopper Base, Ezra and Kanan greeted their fellow rebels including Rex who was saddened by the loss of Ahsoka. Later, after settling back on the Ghost, Ezra opened the Sith holocron in his room.
A Larger Rebellion
At least six months have passed since the mission on Malachor, and the Ghost crew have been struggling since Kanan's constant absences from duty, for his blindness has made very detached and he has been distancing himself from both his friends and the Force ever since. Ezra, on the other hand, took command of the crew in his master's place, constructing a new green-bladed lightsaber and changing his hair in a swept-back style. Unfortunately, the boy still blamed himself for what happened to Kanan and Ahsoka and began learning the powers of the dark side by delving into the Sith holocron, thinking it would prevent any more of his friends from being harmed.
Ezra led the Sabine, Zeb, and Chopper on a mission to free Hondo, from the Imperial prison on the planet Naraka. Hondo had promised to supply the rebels with valuable intelligence in return for his rescue. While Hera waited aboard the Ghost, Ezra and his team climbed under the bridge leading to the prison. After Ezra and Zeb dispatched two Stormtroopers, he signaled for Chopper to join them. To avoid triggering the Imperial sensor lights, Chopper threw himself down the cliff instead of activating his thruster. Ezra managed to levitate the droid above the light using the Force before letting him go and allowing Zeb to catch him.
Together, the rebels made their way inside the prison and found Hondo's cell. Upon opening the cell, Ezra and his team learned that Hondo had an Ugnaught companion named Terba, who had been the original source of his information. After a brief exchange, the rebels were attacked by Stormtroopers, prompting Ezra to contact Hera and tell her to bring the Ghost to the landing platform for a "44 scoop". The rebels soon fled down a turbolift, and after exiting, Ezra and Sabine shot down several Stormtroopers. Ezra also used his new green lightsaber to cut down several Stormtroopers who were blocking their way out. The rebels continued on to the exit but Terba broke away from the company and ran ahead. Exiting the building into the view of an AT-DP, the Ugnaught was struck dead by a blast from the walker's cannon.
The rebels found themselves trapped between Imperial forces on both sides. While Sabine and Chopper dealt with the Imperials behind them, Ezra used the Force to control the AT-DP's pilot, forcing him to attack his own comrades and jump off the edge of the platform. When Sabine asked when Kanan had taught him that power, Ezra replied that he had not. In secret, he had been delving into the Sith holocron and learning the powers of the dark side. After Imperial reinforcements arrived from inside the prison, Ezra ordered his team to jump onto the Ghost's hull while it flew under the platform, allowing the group to escape the planet.
Once safely aboard the Ghost, Ezra and Zeb met with Hera in the cockpit. Zeb told Hera indirectly that the youth had used a mind trick to manipulate the AT-DP pilot. When Hera chastised Ezra for losing Terba, Ezra responded that he was only responsible for the details that he knew and proceeded to storm out. Once inside his room, Ezra blamed Terba for causing his own death and that the operation would never have succeeded without him. Noticing the Sith holocron had activated, Ezra took it out of the Imperial cadet helmet he was hiding it in and held it in his hand. The Presence told him that his anger gave him strength, and Ezra exclaimed that he wanted to become stronger and more powerful so that nobody could hurt his friends again.
Heist at Reklam Station
After returning to Chopper Base, Ezra was present for a briefing where Hondo shared his information about an Imperial salvage yard called Reklam Station, which resided in the atmosphere of the planet Yarma, and that thousands of decommissioned Old Republic Y-Wing Starfighters were being dismantled there. After Rex suggested that the Y-Wings would be good starfighters for the Rebellion, Ezra advocated going ahead with a recovery mission. As a compromise, Hera suggested sending a recon part to scout the station. Because of Ezra's success in rescuing Hondo, Sato promoted the young rebel to Lieutenant Commander and put him in charge of the mission. With the meeting concluded, Hera assured Ezra that Kanan would be proud, to which Ezra told her it didn't seem that way considering his master's constant absence. Since his blinding, Kanan had become very detached, distancing himself from both his friends and the Force.
Later, Ezra was in his bunk when Kanan entered. An argument quickly broke out between Padawan and Master when Kanan reprimanded his apprentice for dabbling with the Sith holocron, and proceeded to take the device. In a moment of anger, Ezra told his master that he did not need the Holocron or him.
For the mission to Reklam Station, Ezra, accompanied by Sabine, Zeb, Chopper, Rex, and Hondo, traveled to Yarma in the Phantom. On the way, the rebels exited at the Sereeda Waypoint where they were attacked by a Mining Guild patrol for failing to reduce their speed. When Ezra suggested destroying the entire patrol, Sabine disagreed and pointed out that the patrol would have already alerted the Empire. The rebels then continued their journey to Yarma. Once inside the planet's atmosphere, the rebels managed to find Reklam Station but discovered there were few Y-Wings that remained intact, a number that was reduced at an alarming rate. Seconds later, the rebels discovered that the Phantom was being pursued by two Dismantler Droids, which inflicted damage on the ship. Destroying the droids, Sabine manages to evade the station's scanners and park the ship under the floating scrapyard.
After infiltrating Reklam Station, the rebels encountered several Ugnaught laborers. Ezra demanded they get out of their way, but Hondo managed to convince the workers to assist the rebels in stealing the Y-Wings in exchange for their freedom. Having disabled the conveyor belts, Ezra ordered his team to get the Y-Wings back to the Rebellion. However, Sabine pointed out that the starfighters needed to be refueled first. The rebels had nearly finished refueling the fighters when they were spotted by a third Dismantler Droid. The station's Commander, Brom Titus, who Ezra had encountered earlier, reactivated the conveyor and engaged the magnetic locks on the Y-Wings; preventing the bombers from getting airborne. In response, Ezra and Rex headed to the command tower to override the locks.
When the third Dismantler Droid attacked Chopper, Sabine, and Zeb, Rex went back to rescue them. Ezra continued alone and defeated a squad of Stormtroopers in the station's hangar bay. In the middle of the fight, he was contacted by Hera, who inquired about the progress of the "recon mission". Ezra claimed that things were going well but Hera quickly deduced he had disobeyed his orders. When Hondo arrived with the Ugnaughts, the pirate told Ezra that he would guard the Imperial landing craft there in case they needed a quick escape.
Once inside the control tower, Ezra knocked down two Stormtroopers with deflected blaster bolts before confronting Titus. The two quickly recognized each other from their earlier encounter aboard the Imperial Interdictor. After a brief verbal exchange, Ezra demanded that Titus release the magnetic locks. When the commander revealed that he had sabotaged the control unit, Ezra decided to disable the station's power with his lightsaber despite the risks to everyone aboard. Ezra struck down the power unit with his lightsaber; freeing the starfighters but sending Reklam Station towards the surface of Yarma.
Noticing Hondo fleeing the salvage yard, Ezra contacted the pirate and jokingly asked him why he was leaving, realizing it was typical of the Weequay's behavior, to which Hondo replied he was making his quick escape, noting another successful adventure. Returning to the conveyor platform, Ezra commanded his comrades to escape with the Y-Wings while the young Jedi tried to reach the Phantom. However, Reklam Station had begun falling apart and the starship was knocked off by a falling crane. Unable to escape off-world or establish communications with the rest of his group, Ezra called on his master for help through the Force. Meanwhile, the rebel Y-Wings were intercepted by an Imperial Star Destroyer commanded by Governor Arihnda Pryce. Fortunately for Ezra and the rebels, the Rebel Fleet arrived with Phoenix Home and the Ghost.
While Phoenix Home evacuated the stolen Y-Wings, Hera and Kanan traveled on the Ghost into the depths of Yarma's atmosphere. With Hera flying alongside the plummeting structure, Kanan managed to pluck Ezra to safety after convincing him to have trust in him and let go of the station. Once aboard the Ghost, Ezra tried to tell Hera about the Phantom but the captain was preoccupied with getting the ship to safety. The rebel ships managed to escape into hyperspace after Grand Admiral Thrawn ordered Pryce to let them go. Back at Chopper Base, Hera reprimanded Ezra for disobeying his orders, endangering his team, and getting the Phantom destroyed. As punishment, his command was suspended.
Later that night, Ezra apologized to Kanan for using the Sith holocron. When Ezra asked his master what he did with it, the older Jedi told him that it was safe. Ezra then thanked Kanan for saving him, to which his master told him that he would always come back, reconciling their relationship.
The Two Holocrons
While traveling through hyperspace, Ezra and his master Kanan stumbled on a derelict Hammerhead Corvette. The two discussed their disagreement about the Sith holocron and the significance of their mission to Malachor. Once aboard, the two encountered a wounded crew member who informed them that a red blade was after him and that the Ghost was in danger. Ezra and his master contacted the Ghost only to learn that Maul had taken Hera, Chopper, Zeb, and Sabine captive. Maul then demanded that the two Jedi hand him the Sith holocron and Kanan Jarrus' holocron in return for the safety of their friends. The Jedi reluctantly acceded to his demands and made preparations to retrieve the Sith holocron, which was in the care of Bendu; a powerful Force-wielder who had befriended Kanan.
Returning to Atollon, Ezra and Kanan traveled on to the lair of the Bendu, which lay in an outcrop of mesas. After hearing no responses, Ezra remarked that Kanan was hearing voices in his head. Suddenly, the two were surrounded by Krykna Spiders. While Kanan had made peace with the creatures, Ezra was still startled and ignited his lightsaber against his master's wishes. The Krykna fled when the Bendu finally stirred. When the Bendu asked why they had come, Ezra explained their predicament with Maul and the Sith holocron. The Bendu counseled the two Jedi that the convergence of the holocrons would be dangerous. From the Bendu, Ezra learned that the holocrons were not merely libraries but that they also granted clarity. The Bendu also warned that the convergence of holocrons could lead to chaos and that the Sith holocron was a source of imbalance between Ezra and his master.
The Bendu reluctantly allowed Ezra to reclaim the holocron but set a task for the apprentice. In order to reclaim the holocron, Ezra had to travel inside a cave that was inhabited by the Krykna. At Kanan's request, Ezra left his lightsaber behind and kept in touch with his master via comlink. Ezra kept in touch with his master but soon lost contact after being surrounded by several Krykna. As they ventured deeper, Ezra took the opportunity to apologize for the recent troubles but Kanan assured his apprentice that it was not his fault. After Ezra forgave himself, apprentice and master reconciled. They eventually found the Sith holocron inside a deep chamber inhabited by Krykna. At Kanan's urging, Ezra stayed calmed as he used the Force to levitate the object towards them. Their presence did not startle the Krykna.
Upon emerging, the Bendu expressed his pleasure that the balance between Ezra and his master had been restored but warned them that their true test had just begun. Since Maul was unable to open the Jedi holocron, the Bendu warned them that it would fall to one of them. When Ezra suggested that they could wield the power of both holocrons, the Bendu warned them that secrets could not be unknown once they had been discovered. Together, Kanan and his master traveled to rendezvous with Maul. When Kanan asked Ezra to open the holocron, Ezra replied that he preferred to listen to him. When Ezra asked Kanan what their plan was, Kanan replied that they would think by "ear." Kanan also counselled his apprentice not to give in to fear and despair.
Their destination turned out to be the former Mandalorian asteroid colony, Vizsla Keep 09. Upon arriving, the two Jedi were greeted by Maul who asked Ezra if he found the Sith holocron illuminating. While Maul dealt with Kanan, Ezra was escorted by two repurposed Tour Guide Droids to the command center. Despite promising to spare his friends, Maul ordered his droids to kill the captives and made a second attempt on Kanan's life. When Maul returned, the two opened the holocrons and brought them together. While Ezra wanted to destroy the Sith, Maul only sought hope. The two were quickly bathed in a bright pink blaze of light. Ezra experienced a vision of twin suns while Maul realized that his old enemy Obi-Wan Kenobi was alive. Before they could proceed further, Kanan arrived with the others and convinced Ezra to let go. Ezra closed his eyes and the vision ended.
Ezra was knocked unconscious due to the power of the holocrons. Maul took the opportunity to flee on the Nightbrother, but left the holocrons behind. After coming round, Ezra told Kanan that he had experienced strange visions of the future but was not sure whether they were things that Maul wanted him to see. Kanan assured Ezra that they would find out together.
Waiting For Sabine
After Imperial forces destroyed a rebel convoy near Teralov, Ezra and his fellow rebels attended a briefing chaired by Sato to discuss the recent losses. During the meeting, Ezra asked how many pilots survived and remarked that at this rate there would no pilots flying for the Rebellion. When Sato informed the rebels that a source called Fulcrum had information on Imperial cadets wanting to defect from the elite Skystrike Academy, Ezra asked whether Ahsoka was still alive. Hera then explained that Fulcrum was a codename for the Rebellion's many undercover agents.
When Hera assigned Sabine an undercover mission to infiltrate the Academy disguised as a cadet, Ezra asked why he was not involved in the mission. Sabine responded that she was once a real cadet while Hera added that Ezra was too well known to the Empire. Instead, he along with Kanan and Chopper were assigned to escort Sabine to the Academy and to evacuate her and the cadets when necessary.
While waiting aboard an Alderaan Cruiser, Ezra and Kanan received word that Sabine had managed to infiltrate the Academy. Despite Kanan's efforts to reassure him that Sabine would be fine, Ezra still voiced his dislike for solo missions. After Sabine had managed to identify the defecting cadets Wedge Antilles, Derek Klivian, and Rake Gahree, Sabine contacted Ezra to rendezvous with them in space. The four cadets flew towards the ship but Governor Pryce deactivated their solar collectors; leaving them stranded in space. Ezra's ship then came under heavy fire and was forced to retreat by Kanan.
After Sabine along with Wedge and Hobbie escaped in a TIE Bomber, Ezra's ship flew into the planet's atmosphere and picked them up. They then managed to escape Captain Vult Skerris's TIE Interceptor. Once inside the command bridge, Sabine asked Ezra why he didn't leave. Ezra responded that he stuck around just in case. Having completed their mission, the rebels fled into hyperspace. Back at Chopper Base, Ezra was present when Sato formally welcomed Wedge and Hobbie into the Rebellion.
Return to Ryloth
Later, Ezra and his fellow rebels returned to Ryloth to deliver supplies to Cham. The Ghost Crew rescued Cham and Numa from being pursued by Imperial forces and evacuated them and their Blurrg steeds aboard the Ghost. One of the pursuing Scout Troopers followed them but Zeb knocked him out. Ezra then took possession of his armor. Ezra and the other rebels then attended a briefing where Cham recounted the recent events on Ryloth; a new Imperial commander Grand Admiral Thrawn had occupied Tann Province and Syndulla's House.
Ezra and the other rebels including Cham volunteered to help Hera recover her mother's Kalikori, a priceless heirloom, from the Syndulla House. For the mission, Ezra disguised himself as a Scout Trooper. Together with Hera, they infiltrated the Twi'lek settlement in a stolen 614-AvA speeder bike. Meanwhile, the other rebels staged a diversionary attack in the Tulara Ravine. Ezra managed to bluff his way past the Imperial sentries by posing as a Scout Trooper taking a captured rebel into Imperial custody. At the Syndulla House, they rendezvoused with Chopper, who was disguised as an Imperial astromech droid.
The two rebels managed to find Cham's former office and recover the Kalikori. They tried to escape through the front door but found it blocked by Stormtrooper sentries. The two rebels also had their first glimpse of Thrawn and his subordinate Captain Slavin with Ezra wondering who the "blue guy" was. Hera and Ezra then tried to escape through the basement but found that the Imperials had set up a command center. With Chopper's help, the two rebels tried to get pass the Stormtrooper sentries at the front door. While Ezra covered for her behind the wall separations and Chopper distracted the Stormtroopers, Hera tried to sneak out through the front door.
However, Hera was accosted by Slavin and Thrawn, with the latter wanting to question her. At Thrawn's orders, Ezra pretended to apprehend Hera and followed them to Thrawn's office. There, Thrawn examined the Kalikori and determined that Hera was Cham's daughter and a rebel operative. With Hera's cover blown, Ezra tried to shoot Thrawn. However, the Grand Admiral stunned him first. Ezra later awoke in a cell with Hera where Thrawn took the Kalikori into his possession and left Slavin to deal with the prisoners.
Slavin then contacted Cham and offered to spare Hera and Ezra if he agreed to surrender by dawn. If he refused, Slavin threatened to execute the two prisoners. Cham accepted Slavin's offer. When Hera apologized for endangering her team, Ezra assured her that he would have done the same for her. Chopper then entered the cell to inform them of Cham's offer to surrender. Ezra then advocated escaping but Hera counseled against it because there were too many guards. Instead, she got Chopper to plant explosives all over the building to create a distraction; something that surprised Ezra.
At dawn, Slavin took Ezra and Hera outside the Syndulla House to facilitate the exchange. As expected, Cham arrived and disembarked from the Ghost. At that point, Chopper emerged and activated the explosives under Hera's orders. This created an explosion which disoriented the Imperials and enabled all the rebels to escape aboard the Ghost. The rebels were allowed by Thrawn to escape as part of his "experiment." Later, Ezra joined the other Ghost Crew and Cham's rebels aboard the Ghost in Ryloth's wilderness. While listening to Hera affirm her love for her father, Kanan, and her crew, Zeb gave Ezra a noogie.
Peacemaker on Agamar
Ezra later accompanied Kanan, Zeb, Chopper, and Rex on a mission to salvage Proton Bombs from a wrecked Separatist Supply Ship on Agamar. From Rex, Ezra and the other rebels learned more about the Clone Wars. When Ezra picked up a B1 Battle Droid's head and opined that the droid did not look dangerous, Rex responded that those "clankers" killed many of his friends. Eventually, Ezra and his team found that the transport's munitions depot was still full of proton bombs. Ezra and his team soon found themselves trapped inside a ray shield and were captured by several battle droids led by B1-268. The battle droids stunned Ezra and his companions and took them captive.
When Ezra and his companions awoke, they found themselves captives of the Super Tactical Droid Kalani, who revealed that he had prevented the shut-down order that occurred after Order 66. Realizing that Rex was a Clone Trooper, Kalani was determined to finish the Clone Wars as a victory for the Separatist Droid Army. Rex, Kanan, and Zeb refused to fight but Ezra saw an opportunity to obtain the proton bombs that the Rebellion was after. In return for participating in the combat simulation, Ezra secured an agreement from Kalani to free Zeb, who had been designated as a hostage, and to give them the proton bombs if they won the match. Kalani accepted the deal and gave orders for his droids to assume the position.
Ezra, Kanan, and Rex waited outside the hangar bay while Kalani briefed them that their objective was to reach the command bridge. Kalani dispatched a wave of battle droids. With Rex taking the lead, Ezra and Kanan utilized the Sword and Shield maneuver which involved deflecting blaster bolts and hurling grenades at the advancing droid columns. Working together, the rebels managed to scatter the first assault wave and reached the hangar. Once inside the hangar, the three rebels found themselves under attack by several Droidekas. Unable to break through their deflector shields, Ezra proposed collapsing a catwalk on them. Rex agreed and ordered Ezra to carry out the task while he and Kanan provided covering fire. On the way, Ezra encountered Chopper, who had managed to send a distress signal and find a Sheathipede-class Shuttles. Chopper wanted to leave but Ezra told him to get the shuttle ready while he fetched the others.
Using his Force powers, Ezra managed to collapsed the catwalk on the Droidekas. Despite his success in knocking out the droids, Ezra was reprimanded by Rex for taking too long and endangering the rest of the team. Kanan then reassured Ezra that Rex was still haunted by the Clone Wars. After knocking out another Droideka, Ezra and the other rebels forced their way into the command bridge and declared victory. However, Kalani refused to accept victory on the grounds that the dilapidated state of his droid forces had prevented a fair fight. Before he could execute Zeb, Ezra managed to reason with Kalani and convince him that the Clones and Separatists shared a common enemy in the form of the Empire; the successor to the Republic. Based on this logic, this made the rebels and Separatist droids allies. Ezra's arguments managed to sway Kalani after Imperial forces arrived and attacked a battle droid patrol led by 268.
Working together, the rebels and Separatist droids decided to delay the advancing Imperial AT-AT and AT-DP walkers. At Kalani's direction, the battle droids fired their bolts at Ezra and Kanan, who deflected them at several proton bombs. These proton bombs were then thrown into the path of an advancing AT-ATs and damaged its front legs. The rebels and droids then fled on three Sheathipede-class Shuttles that had been prepared by Chopper. While one of the shuttles was shot down, the rebels' and Kalani's shuttles manage to reach space. Aboard the shuttle, Rex praised Ezra for ending the Clone Wars; something that had eluded the Galactic Senate, the Grand Army of the Republic and the Droid Army. Kalani agreed with Rex's sentiments but believed that the rebels had a poor chance of success against the Empire and departed for parts unknown. Shortly later, the rebels were contacted by Hera. Kanan informed Hera that the rebels had not found new proton bombs but had found a new transport for the Ghost.
Mission to Concord Dawn
After the rebels lost contact with the Protectors on Concord Dawn's Third Moon, Hera assigned Ezra and Chopper to escort Sabine and Rau, on a recon probe of the moon. During the journey, the rebels traveled on the Phantom II. Sabine assigned Ezra with the task of watching over Rau, who was handcuffed. When Ezra saw the fractured planet of Concord Dawn for the first time, he asked Rau what happened to the planet. Rau told him that the Mandalorians had fought for centuries.
While Ezra was distracted, Rau freed himself from his binders and stunned Ezra and Sabine. Ezra was later woken up by Chopper, who slapped him out of unconsciousness. Chopper also freed Ezra and Sabine from their restraints. Upon exiting the shuttle, the rebels found Rau on top of a hill. Ezra used the Force to snatch his pistol that Rau took out of his hand. The rebels soon discovered that another Mandalorian faction had attacked the Protectors and slaughtered them. While Sabine and Rau argued, Chopper sensed that someone was coming.
The rebels were then attacked by a Viper Probe Droid. Ezra used the Force to grab it and Sabine managed to shoot down the droid. Rau wanted to bargain with the Empire, prompting an argument with Sabine. However, the visitors turned out to be a group of Mandalorian Imperial Super Commandos led by the Imperial Viceroy of Mandalore, Gar Saxon. Ezra and the others fled but he was quickly captured by Saxon and his men. Since Rau had taken his lightsaber, he was unable to fight back. The Imperials Super Commandos also captured Chopper and the Phantom II.
When interrogated, Ezra tried to mislead his captors by claiming that he and Chopper were scavengers who worked for Hondo. However, Saxon did not believe Ezra and fired shots around Chopper to force his cooperation. Ezra then claimed that he was Lando. Unsatisfied, Saxon continued the interrogation and forced Ezra to reveal that Rau had sent him. When Ezra said that he did not know where Rau was, Saxon tried to shoot Chopper. Using his Force powers, Ezra managed to deflect the bolts twice. However, Saxon realized that he was a Jedi.
Before Saxon could continue his interrogation, Sabine threw smoke grenades into the building. The three rebels then fled back to the Phantom II only to discover that Rau had stolen the ship. Ezra and his comrades were then surrounded by Saxon and his Super Commandos. Saxon attempted to force Sabine to yield to him but she used the Frequency 337 on her helmet to escape. Ezra and Sabine shared a jetpack with the youth clinging onto to Sabine for dear life. The three rebels fled into a canyon with the Super Commandos in pursuit.
The rebels decided to find Saxon's ship in order to get off-world. With a Super Commando closing in on them, Sabine was forced to fly low and Ezra narrowly avoided hitting a rock. Sabine then lowered Ezra on top of a rock and he then jumped onto the jetpack of another Mandalorian. Following a struggle, Ezra damaged the Commando's jetpack, causing him to fall to the ground. Using the Force, Ezra leaped towards Sabine and clung on to her. As they fled into a narrower part of the canyon, Sabine used grenades to block Saxon and his men. When Saxon and one of his men opened fire, Ezra lost his grip and was forced to ride on Chopper.
The rebels eventually reached Saxon's ship but the Super Commandos closed in on them. Before they could kill the rebels, Rau arrived on the Phantom II and opened fire on Saxon's ship. Ezra and Chopper managed to escape aboard but Sabine struggled with Saxon, who was determined to kill her. Sabine managed to escape with Ezra's help. Once aboard, Rau expressed his new-found respect for Sabine's devotion to her friends and decided to join the Rebellion. When Ezra opined that the Mandalorians were crazy, Rau joked that he was crazy enough to join them.
Evacuation of Mykapo
Later, Sato dispatched the Ghost Crew and Phoenix Squadron to Mykapo to evacuate rebel sympathizers prior to an impending Imperial crackdown. Upon entering the Mykapo System, Ezra and his fellow rebels came to the aid of a YT-2400 Light Freighter that was under attack from TIE Fighters. Ezra opened fired on the TIEs with the Ghost's laser cannons. The freighter's captain identified his group as a local rebel cell called the Iron Squadron and destroyed an Imperial Gozanti-class Cruiser.
While Kanan and Zeb assisted with the evacuation efforts, Ezra along with Hera, Sabine, and Chopper docked with Iron Squadron's freighter Sato's Hammer. Once aboard, they were greeted by the Theelin crew member Gooti Terez and her human comrade Jonner Jin. When Sabine remarked that the ship was in a state of disarray, Ezra cautioned her to be careful not to upset the crew. He and Gooti also broke up a fight between Chopper and Iron Squadron's astromech droid R3-A3. Ezra along with Hera and Sabine tried unsuccessfully to convince the freighter's captain Mart Mattin to leave the Mykapo System because the Empire was returning with reinforcements.
Unable to reason with Iron Squadron, the rebels returned to the Ghost. By then, Phoenix Squadron had completed the evacuation of rebel sympathizers on Mykapo. Before they could leave to rendezvous with the Rebel Fleet, Ezra convinced Hera to give him, Sabine, and Chopper another try at reasoning with Iron Squadron. Hera reluctantly complied but warned to leave on Phantom II if Imperial reinforcements arrived. Sabine and Chopper managed to gain the Squadron's trust by helping R3 to repair the ship's hyperdrive.
Despite repairing the hyperdrive, Sabine and Chopper's efforts came to naught when Mart redirected the ship's power to its laser cannons and deflector shields. Ezra and Sabine managed to convince Gooti and Jonner after Admiral Konstantine arrived with a light cruiser, two Gozanti cruisers and several TIE Fighters. The rebels, Gooti, Jonner, and R3 managed to flee aboard the Phantom II but Mart wanted to stay behind and fight. However, the Sato's Hammer was damaged and stranded in space. Ezra and the other rebels were forced to flee into hyperspace. Before leaving, Ezra vowed to return for his friend.
After returning to the fleet, Ezra attended a briefing with the other rebels, Iron Squadron, Rex, and the holographic form of Commander Sato. After receiving a distress call from Mart, Ezra and the other rebels joined forces to rescue Mart. They managed to remove a magno-mine that Konstantine had attached to the Sato's Hammer. During the skirmish, the rebels managed to damage Konstantine's cruiser. Commander Sato arrived with reinforcements and also destroyed Konstantine's TIE Fighters and Gozanti cruisers. The rebels then escaped into hyperspace shortly after Grand Admiral Thrawn arrived on the Chimaera. Ezra was present with the other rebels at Chopper Base when Mart embraced his uncle Sato and his crew.
Mission to Wynkahthu
Later, Ezra was contacted Hondo, who solicited the rebels' assistance in recovering cargo from a stranded Imperial Cargo Ship in the upper atmosphere of the stormy planet of Wynkahthu. Ezra's rebel comrades particularly Hera and Sabine distrusted Hondo and his new business partner Azmorigan but Ezra reasoned that the pirate could be trusted since they had come out safely during their last mission to Reklam Station. The rebels agreed to assist Hondo and Azmorigan recovers their treasure in return for getting access to a shipment of proton bombs aboard the cargo ship.
Since the Imperial cargo ship was stuck over a vortex, the rebels had to devise a plan to extract the cargo. Unhappy with Ezra's fraternization with Hondo, Hera assigned Zeb leadership of the recovery team. When Ezra protested, Hera countered that Hondo was untrustworthy; a stance shared by Kanan. Ezra resented this perceived demotion and made snide remarks towards Zeb. Zeb's plan involved the rebels, Hondo, and Azmorigan leaping from the Ghost's cargo bay into the upper hull of the cargo ship.
Ezra and his fellow expeditionary members then accessed the ship through a hatch. Once inside, Zeb sent Chopper to restore power to the ship. Ezra openly questioned Zeb's decision in the presence of the other team members. Shortly later, the rebels encountered one of Hondo's Ugnaught crew members Melch, who had survived a failed earlier attempt to board the cargo ship. While Hondo's omission of these facts solidified Zeb's distrust of the pirate, Ezra insisted that they could still work with him.
When the rebels reached the cargo bay, tensions between Ezra and Zeb resurfaced when the former insisted on using his lightsaber to breach the chamber against the latter's protests. After finding the treasure and bombs, the rebels opened the cargo bay's outer door. This allowed the Ghost to approach the bay. Since the ship could not land, grappling guns were used to fire magnetic cables onto the ship's hull. Under Zeb's orders, the recovery team began loading the proton bombs aboard the Ghost first. Ezra sided with Hondo when the pirate insisted on loading his treasure but Zeb was unwilling to back down.
When Ezra noticed that Azmorigan had disappeared, Hondo was unconcerned since he wanted to keep a greater share of the treasure. As a result, Ezra realized that Hondo only cared for himself. When Zeb went to look for him, Ezra insisted that he be the one to find Azmorigan but Zeb ordered Ezra to stay behind and load the cargo. After Ezra had loaded the fourth batch of proton bombs, a lightning bolt caused the cargo ship to list towards the vortex. Hera ordered Ezra and his team to evacuate but Ezra insisted on finding Azmorigan and Zeb, who had not returned. Ezra was soon contacted via comlink by Zeb, who revealed that he and Azmorigan had been locked in the ship's brig by a reactivated Imperial Sentry Droid.
Ezra rushed to find the brig and encountered Chopper. Together, the two managed to free Zeb and Azmorigan. Before they could return to the cargo bay, they ran into the Sentry Droid. Despite Zeb's orders to stay hidden, Azmorigan destroyed the Sentry Droid. However, this activated the four other Sentry Droids which pursued the recovery team back to the cargo bay. While Ezra and Zeb exchanged fire with the Sentry Droids, Hondo and Azmorigan took the opportunity to flee back to the Ghost on their treasure chests. Chopper quickly followed suit.
Unable to hold out anymore, the two rebels fled back to the Ghost on the magnetic cable system. However, the droids destroyed the grappling gun, causing Ezra and Zeb to fall. However, the two rebels managed to hold on to their rope and were pulled aboard the Ghost by Kanan. The rebels and their confederates then fled the cargo ship before the vortex ripped it apart. Once safely aboard the Ghost, the rebels examined their cargo and discovered that Melch had stowed aboard Hondo's treasure chest. Having accomplished their objectives, the rebels and Hondo's party parted company.
Undercover on Lothal
After the rebels received intelligence that the Empire was developing a new weapon at the Lothal Imperial Factory, Ezra along with Kanan and Chopper traveled back to Lothal to enlist the support of Ryder's cell in taking out the factory. They managed to rendezvous with Ryder's landspeeder in the streets of Capital City but were attacked by an Imperial patrol. During the brief skirmish, Ezra and Kanan managed to use their lightsabers to topple an AT-DP walker. They then escaped two 614-AvA speeder bikes, which exploded due to faulty engines.
Ezra and his team then traveled to a stone circle in Lothal's wilderness that served as Ryder's encampment. There, Ezra was reunited with many old friends; Sumar, his wife Marida Sumar, and Jho. Morad noted that Ezra had grown and complimented the young rebel for making his parents proud. Ezra and Kanan learned that Ryder's cell was sabotaging vehicles produced by the Lothal Imperial factory. After discussing their mission with Ryder and Morad, the rebels learned that the Empire had a secret project housed inside the factory's Section A2. With the help of Morad, Ezra and his team managed to infiltrate the factory disguised as workers and Chopper disguised as an Imperial communication droid.
Before they could proceed on their mission, Ezra and the other workers were summoned for an assembly by Thrawn. Thrawn had been dispatched by Imperial High Command to investigate the high rate of defective vehicles produced by the Lothal Imperial factory. As a deterrent, Thrawn killed Sumar by forcing him to ride a defective speeder bike, which exploded. When Thrawn ordered his subordinates to question the workers, Ezra and Kanan managed to slip away with the help of Chopper, who detonated another speeder bike.
Ezra and Kanan then encountered a Scout Trooper and a Stormtrooper, whom they knocked out and stole their uniforms. With Chopper, they headed to Section A2 only to discover that Thrawn had stationed sentries there. Chopper managed to gain admission by electrocuting an Imperial communication droid and stealing its clearance code. While awaiting Chopper's return, Ezra and Kanan were confronted by a Stormtrooper Commander and his men, who noted they were outside their allocated area. Ezra and Kanan fled the Stormtroopers when Chopper returns and headed into a turbolift.
Inside the turbolift, the rebels encountered Kallus, who quickly recognized them. Ezra and Kanan attacked Kallus but the ISB agent managed to convince them that he was a Fulcrum operative by quoting the code-phrase "by the light of Lothal's moons". While Ezra was suspicious of Kallus, the ISB agent managed to convince the rebels of his sincerity by recounting how he had aided Zeb and Sabine in their earlier encounters. Satisfied, Kanan enlisted Kallus' help in breaching a communications station so that they could contact Ryder.
Ezra and Kanan stormed the com station with their lightsabers and blasters and managed to stun the station crew. After Kallus used the station port to transmit Kanan's signal to Ryder, the rebels learned that Ryder was launching a diversionary attack on the east gate. Kallus then told the rebels that they could escape through the hangar bay at the east gate. To convince Kallus' Imperial superiors that he had fought against the rebels, Ezra used the Force to fling him against a glass monitor screen. When Kanan chided Ezra for beating him to the punch, Ezra reassured him that he would get another chance now that Kallus was working with them.
Following Kallus' instructions, Ezra, Kanan, and Chopper commandeered an AT-DP walker and exited the east gate. However, the rebels' walker encountered two AT-AT walkers, that had been sent to counter Ryder's attack. Piloting the walker, Ezra claimed that he was a reinforcement that had been sent to aid the AT-ATs. However, Thrawn warned the pilots that Ezra's team had hijacked the AT-DP walker. Ezra's walker was attacked by the two AT-ATs, which proceeded to open fire on it. Ezra managed to maneuver his walker under one of the AT-ATs. However, the AT-AT proceeded to crush the smaller AT-DP walker.
Ezra and Kanan managed to use their lightsabers to cut their way out of their doomed transport. Together with Chopper, they boarded the walker, took out the pilots, and escaped through the hatch. At that point, Marida fired a rocket at their hijacked AT-AT, which toppled to the ground. Ezra informed Marida that her husband had died during the mission. Ezra's team then escaped into the wilderness on Ryder's two landspeeders. Ezra, Kanan, and Ryder then attended a hologram debriefing with Hera, Sabine, and Zeb. After decrypting the stolen Imperial plans, the rebels learned that Thrawn had developed a new starfighter, a TIE Defender, an initiative that threatened the Rebellion.
The Spectre of Maul
Using the information recovered by Ezra's team, Hera made plans to launch a strike on the Lothal Imperial Factory. Ezra was assigned to carry out reconnaissance work on Imperial military movements there and was also made the leader of the team. Before they could proceed with the mission, Ezra began seeing visions of Maul in the Chopper Base command center. After seeing a visage of Maul behind him, Ezra fainted and was tended to by Kanan and Zeb. When he awoke in his and Zeb's room, Ezra insisted that he was fine and insisted on proceeding with the mission despite Hera and Kanan's worries.
While helping Sabine to load supplies aboard the Ghost, Ezra witnessed Maul and attacked a Rebel Crewman, whom he mistook for Maul. Kanan was forced to restrain him. When Ezra realized his actions, he wondered what was wrong. While Hera and the rest of the team departed for Lothal, Ezra, Kanan, and Sabine stayed behind. After Kanan got Sabine to track Ezra's wrist comm, Kanan and Ezra traveled into the wilderness to meet with Bendu. After Ezra related the details of his last encounter with Maul, Bendu surmised that the experience with the holocrons had a negative effect on Ezra.
Despite Bendu's warning not to turn around, Kanan and Ezra turned to discover that Maul was watching them on a sand dune. When Ezra asked Maul how he had found them, Maul replied that Ezra's abrupt severance of the holocron connection had caused both to see fragments of each other's visions. Maul revealed that he had come to Atollon to retrieve the remaining message of his vision from Ezra's mind. When Kanan objected, Maul threatened to trigger a homing beacon that would alert the Empire to their presence. With little choice, Ezra complied and departed with Maul on his starship Nightbrother for Dathomir.
After landing, Maul led Ezra through the site of the battle where his Nightsisters kin had been slaughtered by the Separatists. Maul led a reluctant Ezra into a cave within the Nightsister Lair. There, Ezra discovered that Maul had been preparing for a ritual and had amassed a great deal of objects from his past including the Darksaber. When Ezra tried to touch the Darksaber, Maul chastised the youth and told him that his Mandalorian friend could provide him with more information on the Darksaber's significance.
As part of the ritual, Ezra and Maul had to drink glasses of magick water. Ezra insisted on Maul going ahead and the potion caused their eyes to turn green and shoot beams of light. As a result, Ezra learned that Obi-Wan held the key to destroying the Sith while Maul learned that Obi-Wan was located on a dessert planet with twin suns. After the ritual ended, the two were accosted by several fallen Nightsister spirits who demanded that they pay their price in flesh and blood. Before Ezra and Maul could escape, Kanan and Sabine entered the cave.
Despite Ezra's warnings, Kanan and Sabine attacked the apparitions and were possessed by the fallen spirits. Ezra tried to talk to Kanan and Sabine but his possessed friends attacked him and Maul. The two managed to escape by fleeing through the cave entrance, which the spirits could not cross since the altar was their source of power. Maul, once again, attempted to recruit Ezra as his apprentice by claiming that their destiny was linked to the planet with the twin suns. However, Ezra refused to abandon his friends. Maul then rejected Ezra as a "disappointment" and left on his ship.
Returning to the cave, Ezra decided to lure out Kanan and Sabine in order to exorcise the spirits. He was soon attacked by the possessed Sabine, who told him that the spirits desired his body. Using the Force, Ezra managed to throw Sabine out of the cave and the spirit was exorcised from her. After taking the Darksaber and telling Sabine not to enter the cave again, Ezra went to find Kanan. He found a possessed Kanan sitting above the altar. Ezra managed to convince the spirits to leave Kanan if he sacrificed his flesh and blood. In return, the spirits demanded that Ezra fight Kanan to prove his worth.
Following a fight, Ezra managed to beat Kanan and the Nightsister spirit left his body. After telling Kanan to leave, Ezra used his lightsaber and the Darksaber to destroy the altar, vanishing the spirits. Once the spirits had departed, Ezra briefed Kanan and Sabine about his encounter with Maul. Ezra was annoyed that Sabine had re-entered the cave but she replied that she had never listened to him before. Ezra then told Kanan and Sabine that Maul had discovered that Obi-Wan was still alive and that he was inhabiting a planet with twin suns. The three resolved to stop Maul from killing Ob-Wan who held the key to destroying the Sith.
Mission to Geonosis
At the request of Senator Bail Organa and Rebel Command, Ezra, his fellow crew members and Rex undertook a mission to find the rebel leader Saw Gerrera, who had disappeared while investigating the apparent disappearance of the Geonosians. After landing on Geonosis, Ezra accompanied Rex, Kanan, and Chopper as they searched a Geonosian structure where Saw had last transmitted a signal to Rebel Command. There, Ezra discovered a hole which led to an underground labyrinth.
While underground, Ezra and his comrades discovered sealed tunnels and the helmets of Saw's Partisans. Kanan and Chopper wanted to leave but Ezra and Rex convinced them to continue their mission to find Saw. Ezra and his comrades eventually reached a dead-end only to be cornered by several battle droids and a Droideka. Saw soon arrived and outflanked the battle droids. This allowed Ezra and Kanan to destroy the Droideka with their lightsabers.
Ezra and his comrades learned that Saw and his team had been attacked by a lone Geonosian. The Geonosian had killed his comrades and Saw wanted to investigate whether the Geonosian knew why the Empire had exterminated the planet's population. The Ghost Crew and Rex agreed to help Saw complete his mission. While contacting Hera at a large air shaft, the rebels found the Geonosian hiding on the other side. With the help of Kanan's Force powers, Ezra managed to Force jump onto the other side.
He was soon followed by Chopper. Ezra and Chopper pursued the Geonosian through the labyrinth but were unable to keep up with him. Saw, Kanan, and Rex finally managed to corner the Geonosian and disable the remote controller he was using to control the Droidekas on the surface. When Saw harshly questioned the Geonosian about what the Empire was doing on Geonosis, Ezra objected to his aggressive methods and befriended the Geonosian, whom he nicknamed Klik-Klak. After Chopper picked up an energy reading, Saw forced Klik-Klak to accompany them.
When Saw dropped a compass-shaped device which contained a hologram of his late sister Steela Gerrera, Ezra returned it to Saw; who told the boy that this was all that he had of his sister. Rex then explained that Saw was still grieving over the loss of his sister and distrusted Geonosians due to their alliance with the Separatists during the Clone Wars. The rebels soon discovered that the source of the energy reading was Klik-Klak's Nest, which hosted a transmitter and a workshop. Ezra protested when Saw began rummaging through Klik-Klak's home. Trusting Ezra, Klik-Klak revealed that he was the custodian of the last Geonosian queen egg.
Ezra objected to Saw's plan to take Klik-Klak off-world for interrogation and insisted that the Geonosian belonged to his homeworld. Kanan managed to broker a truce whereby they would take Klik-Klak to Chopper Base for interrogation but return him to Geonosis once they had finished. The rebels then rendezvoused with Hera and the Ghost at the central air shaft. Once aboard, an argument broke out between the Ghost Crew, Rex, and Saw. Ezra objected to Saw's plan to take Klik-Klak off-world on the Phantom II and his electrocution of the Geonosian with an electro-shock device. Ezra and Rex were also involved in a physical altercation with Saw. When Saw threatened to shoot the Geonosian queen egg, Ezra countered that doing so would help the Empire to exterminate the Geonosians.
The two put aside their differences to repel an Imperial boarding party of Jumptroopers from Captain Brunson's Imperial Light Cruiser. During the fight, Ezra used the Force to hurl detonators at the Jumptroopers. After repelling the boarding party, the rebels descended into the depths of Geonosis. While underground, the rebels and Saw discovered evidence in the form of poison canisters that the Empire had perpetrated genocide against the Geonosians. Confronted with the evidence, Saw underwent a change of heart and freed Klik-Klak and the Geonosian queen egg; who disappeared farther underground.
The rebels then managed to escape Brunson's light cruiser by badly damaging the ship with proton bombs. In the process, they lost several of the poison canisters they had carried away as evidence. During the briefing, Ezra reassured his fellow rebels, Bail, and Sato that they had given the Geonosians another chance to survive. After Saw left the room, Kanan told Ezra that not all of their allies shared the same values and motives for fighting against the Empire.
Later, Ezra accompanied Hera, Kanan, Sabine, Wedge, Hobbie, and other members of the Phoenix Squadron on a training exercise. Zeb was despondent because he could not come along and had to stay behind with Chopper and AP-5. Ezra and Sabine told Zeb to cheer up before leaving aboard the Ghost. The following day, Ezra and the other crew members returned after Zeb contacted them to report an incident the previous night. Ezra and his comrades were present when Kallus praised the rebels for reprogramming the Imperial Infiltrator Droid EXD-9 into an improvised bomb. Ezra and the other rebels listened as AP-5 began to recount the incident before Zeb playfully muzzled him.
Ezra was present with the other crew members when Kanan, Fenn, and Hera convened a meeting aboard the Ghost to discuss the matter of training Sabine how to wield the Darksaber. Kanan, Fenn, and Hera wanted Sabine to use the Darksaber to rally her people to the rebel cause. Due to her estranged relationship with her family, Sabine was reluctant to assume this responsibility. When Kanan suggested that it was no coincidence that Sabine found the Darksaber, Ezra voiced his opinion that Sabine might struggle to master the weapon given the difficulty he had learning how to master the Force and the lightsaber. After some discussion, Sabine reluctantly decided to learn how to wield the Darksaber.
Later, Ezra accompanied Kanan and Sabine on a landspeeder into Atollon's wilderness. During the journey, Ezra explained that going into the wilderness would allow them to avoid the distractions at Chopper Base. Sabine then responded that she would damage him if he did not shut up. After setting up camp, Ezra watched as Kanan and Sabine parried with Training Sabers. Judging Sabine's skills to be wanting, Kanan instructed Sabine to practice with Ezra. For the next two days, Ezra taught Sabine the basics of stick fighting. Kanan did not want Sabine to train with the Darksaber yet because he feared that she would hurt herself.
Fenn later arrived at the camp with supplies and outfitted Sabine with Mandalorian Vambraces. Sabine used vambraces to gain an advantage over Ezra during a training session. However, Kanan intervened and managed to outsmart Sabine. He took the opportunity to lecture her that discipline and training, not tricks would keep her alive in the long run. Frustrated with Kanan's training methods, Sabine stormed off in rage to spend some time alone.
Taking pity on Sabine, Ezra encouraged her to persevere with her training. He told Sabine that while Kanan was not the easiest teacher, he still meant well. When Sabine responded that she did not want the baggage that came with the Darksaber, Ezra asked her about her family. Sabine explained that her family regarded her as a traitor. When Ezra said that was not true, Sabine told him that he did not know her and opined that she would be unable to lead her people if she did not resolve her family problems. Ezra pointed out to Sabine that at least she had a family to go back to, unlike him. Sabine realized that Ezra was right and went to clear her thoughts in the wilderness. Unknown to both of them that the Bendu was watching.
Later that night, Ezra chatted with Fenn by a campfire. When Ezra asked Fenn when Sabine would return, he cautioned patience. When Ezra opined that Sabine needed more time, Fenn responded that time was not a luxury the galaxy could afford. At that point, Sabine returned to the camp. Kanan apologized for holding her training back while Sabine apologized for her attitude. Ezra and Fenn watched as Sabine parried with the Darksaber against Kanan in a training exercise.
The exercise proved to be an opportunity for Sabine to come to terms with her decision to leave her family. Ezra and the others learned that Sabine had spoken out against the Empire for using weapons to enslave Mandalore. As a result, her parents had cast her away. As the duel got more intense, Ezra wanted to intervene but Fenn held him back. After besting Kanan in the duel, Sabine broke down and wept. Following the sparring session, Ezra joined Kanan and Fenn in pledging to help Sabine to fulfill her goals of repairing her relationship with her family and reuniting the Mandalorians.
Joined by Chopper, the group of four took the Phantom II to Krownest, Sabine's ancestral home, with Ezra being surprised by how nervous Sabine was about returning home. He initially mistook her comment that they could be shot down as a joke, but quickly learned how serious she was when a group of Clan Wren warriors attacked. After a heavy landing, the two Jedi and Sabine were confronted by the warriors, with Ezra deflecting a blaster bolt back at an Imperial Super Commando despite Sabine's warning. The commando proved to be Sabine's brother Tristan, who soon escorted the group to the Clan Wren Stronghold. After showing her the Darksaber, Sabine introduced her mother Ursa Wren to Ezra and Kanan; Ezra's effort to be friendly resulted in guns being drawn.
Much to his reluctance, Ezra was asked to surrender his lightsaber, only acquiescing after Sabine assured him that nothing would happen to it. After Sabine went to talk with her mother in private, Ezra attempted to make conversation with Tristan but ended up looking foolish, leading Kanan to encourage him to leave the talking to the more experienced Jedi. Later, when Kanan asked to speak with Ursa again, Ezra decried her alliance with the Empire, citing Sabine's praise of their family's traditions. He then spoke of his and Sabine's engagement with Gar Saxon on Concord Dawn, only to be held at gunpoint along with Kanan as Ursa revealed her intention to hand the two Jedi over to the Imperial Viceroy. Fortunately, after Saxon revealed his intent to wipe out Clan Wren as he had the Protectors, Rau-who had remained hidden at Kanan's urging-intervened and returned Ezra and Kanan's lightsabers, which he had recovered.
The two Jedi joined Clan Wren-including Tristan-in fighting against the Super Commandos, with Ezra saving Sabine from one of them and then tossing her his lightsaber so she could engage Saxon, who had received the Darksaber from Ursa prior to his treacherous announcement. He then went outside with Rau and the others as Sabine and Saxon clashed, but was prevented from interfering by Ursa, who cited Mandalorian tradition. Fortunately, Sabine triumphed without aid, and Saxon was killed by Ursa when he attempted to shoot Sabine in the back. Much to Ezra and Kanan's surprise, Sabine elected to remain with her people to help them face the chaos that Saxon's death would bring, and she and Rau remained behind after she bid Kanan and Ezra farewell, though she suggested that her people might join the Rebellion once they found a way to rescue her imprisoned father.
Ezra later accompanied Hera, Zeb, and Chopper aboard the Ghost while Kanan attended to a supply mission, and the group witnessed Mon Mothma's denunciation of the Emperor on HoloNet News. After an encounter with a Tactical Infiltration Pod, the group encountered the Chandrila Mistress and Gold Squadron, whom they had been sent to meet. The crew soon met Gold Leader and Gold Two, and the two squadrons initially rubbed each other the wrong way due to Gold Squadron's dislike for Phoenix Squadron's more aggressive tactics. However, when Imperial forces attacked, Ezra took over Gold Two's Y-Wing after she was knocked unconscious, and the Mistress' crew-including Mon Mothma-transferred aboard the Ghost. Ezra praised the Senator for her courage, and willingly agreed to help escort her to Dantooine for a meeting with various Rebel leaders.
Heading to the Archeon Nebula, the group encountered an Imperial Light Cruiser and a ship that Ezra recognized with dread: the prototype of the TIE Defender, piloted by Vult Skerris. The ship and its TIE Interceptor flight partners decimated Gold Squadron, leaving only Ezra and Gold Leader in flight as they tried to get the Ghost through the Archeon Pass. Facing off with Skerris, the two managed to disable him using Gold Leader's Ion Cannon, and emerged from the nebula to find the Ghost at the mercy of two Star Destroyers. Fortunately, the pair were able to employ their Proton torpedoes to disable the Imperial ships, allowing them and the Ghost to escape. Ezra subsequently returned to the Ghost and, after enjoying a nicer exchange with Gold Two, watched as the Rebel Fleet assembled in response to Mon Mothma's call.
Once again minus Kanan, the crew of the Ghost saw Wedge Antilles off on a mission with AP-5 and Chopper to acquire codes needed for the upcoming attack on Lothal, a position that neither Ezra nor Zeb envied the young pilot for. Upon Wedge's return, they were skeptical when AP-5 voiced suspicions about Chopper's behavior until they realized that Chopper was being polite, which was unheard of. The compromised droid-ensnared by the Controller-tricked the crew into entering the cargo hold, and attempted to jettison them into space. Fortunately they were able to escape thanks to AP-5 and recovered him from drifting in space after halting the Controller's plans and regaining Chopper.
Maul and Thrawn
Maul, having determined that Obi-Wan was on Tatooine but failing to locate him, used a fragment of one of the Holocrons to connect with the shattered databases and inform Ezra of the planet on which he was located. This was a ploy to lure Ezra to Tatooine so that he could in turn be used to lure Obi-Wan out of hiding. Ezra took the bait and went despite Hera's orders, and after being lured out into the deserts of Tatooine with the stowaway Chopper was found by Obi-Wan. The Jedi Master helped Ezra realize that Maul had deceived him, and when the former Sith appeared to confront him Obi-Wan had Ezra mount his Dewback and depart with Chopper. The pair came upon Maul's Nighbrother, which they used to return to Atollon where-as Master Kenobi had helped Ezra see-his family awaited him.
Ezra was present on Atollon when General Jan Dodonna's fleet arrived to join in the assault on Lothal, only for Thrawn's Seventh Fleet to appear on its heels. With their own force outmatched, Hera instructed Ezra and Kanan to take the Nightbrother and go for reinforcements; however, Ezra would end up with Chopper as a companion while Kanan went to try and enlist the aid of Bendu. Ezra succeeded in leaving the system after Commander Sato sacrificed himself and Phoenix Nest to destroy one of Thrawn's Interdictor Cruisers, only to find that Mon Mothma couldn't send any reinforcements to their aid for fear of walking into Thrawn's trap. As such, Ezra decided to turn to his only other option for help: Sabine.
Traveling to Krownest, Ezra informed Clan Wren of the situation, but was informed that they were currently embroiled in the Mandalorian Civil War against Clan Saxon. With Ursa apparently unwilling to help, Ezra prepared to return Atollon alone, only for Sabine to volunteer to come with him; her courage and the reminder of all that the Rebellion had done for her family convinced Ursa to send a handful of Fang Fighters and a group of volunteers along with Ezra. At Sabine's suggestion, they went after Thrawn's other Interdictor, with Ezra using an EVA Suit to join the Mandalorians on the outer hull of the ship. Their efforts enabled the remnants of the Rebel Fleet to escape, and they made their way towards Yavin IV.
Fighting From Yavin
Personality and Traits
- “Why would I risk my life for a bunch of strangers?”
Unbeknownst to him, Ezra was very Force-sensitive. Ezra passed his Force-related feelings as strange skills. Ezra would also use these skills to steal from others. Once Ezra learned the true nature of his skills from Kanan, he began his training as a Jedi. In terms of personality, Ezra's rough upbringing taught him not to trust others, let alone help them. Sometime after meeting the crew of the Ghost, Ezra became a bit more trusting. Ezra was also very charismatic, which helped him get by during his early years. He was thievish, yet easy going and upbeat, and liked to play pranks and make jokes. He flirted with Sabine and pranked Zeb, but with his jokey attitude he hid from the others what he really felt about his parents, because he didn't trust people easily. Although initially selfish and self-serving, Ezra's time with the crew helped to bring out his compassionate side, especially after he began to see what they did helped others who had lost hope or were unable to help themselves. At first, he was baffled by the idea of helping someone without reward but came to see the deed itself was its own reward because it was the right thing to do. After Kanan was captured by the Empire, Ezra took on more responsibility, arguably taking leadership of the crew while rescuing him. When Maketh Tua asked for help, Ezra was the first one to believe that they should help. Since what they do is help those in need; even though she was from the Empire. Because of Kanan's mistrust to Rex and the Clones, and Rex believing that he's worked with better Jedi then Kanan, Ezra takes on the responsibility of being the bridge between them. Also he was more willing to join the Rebellion unlike Kanan. Over time he firmly opposed the Empire and stood up for the people of the Galaxy who were being oppressed.
Ezra also seems to be more welcome to new people joining the Rebellion. Though he has become more active on the battlefield and front line, Ezra has shown a preference not to kill, as seen in "Stealth Strike", when he escapes his Stormtrooper escort and destroys their blasters while making good on his promise not to hurt them. He does apparently kill some troopers while he and his team are escaping, but only because it was unavoidable.
However, since speaking with Yoda face-to-face, Ezra has shown a more aggressive side, as well as some arrogance that has caused friction between him and his teacher. His frustration showed when he was unable to connect to the Krykna Spiders, and he is more rebellious towards Kanan and more assertive in fighting.
During the mission to Malachor, Ezra encountered the former Sith apprentice, Maul, who taught him the basic philosophy of the Sith and encouraged Ezra to use his anger to strengthen him.
After the loss of Ahsoka and the blinding of his master, Ezra was determined to never allow his friends to be harmed again. Due to this and the influence from the Sith Holocron, Ezra started to fight more aggressively, such as killing Stormtroopers rather than stunning them. Ezra's use of the Sith holocron strained relations with his Kanan. In addition, Ezra was a headstrong young man who was willing to circumvent orders. Ezra began to repair his relationship with Kanan after his master rescued him during a dangerous mission at Reklam Station.
Ezra also sought to discover the key to destroying the Sith. Despite being tempted by the dark side and Maul, Ezra ultimately chose to remain loyal to Kanan and Sabine. His selflessness put him at odds with Maul, who failed to understand Ezra's loyalty to his friends. Ezra also had a great deal of respect for the lives of other sentient beings. This led him to object to Saw's harsh treatment of Klik-Klak and his threat to destroy the last Geonosian queen egg. Ezra also had a friendly and kind demeanor which allowed him to gain Klik-Klak's trust.
Ezra was a loyal and sympathetic friend to Sabine. While Sabine was training to wield the Darksaber, he patiently taught her lightsaber strokes. When Sabine wanted to give up, Ezra urged her to persevere and reassured her that Kanan meant well. As he matured, Ezra was able to impart wisdom to his peers. When Sabine told him about her estranged relationship with her family who had supported the Empire, Ezra counseled her that at least she had a family to return to unlike himself.
Weapons, Gear, and Skills
Ezra's outfit was more than meets the eye. Firstly, there were fingerless gloves that fitted his hands, an Energy Slingshot directly above his left arm, and a comlink was on the left side of his waist. His left knee was padded for improved sliding. Finally, Ezra also kept a backpack on him, which was filled with stolen gadgets (e.g. wrench, flashlight, droid arm, and a holo-disk).
Ezra eventually constructed his own Lightsaber, with a blue colored blade, after acquiring a Kyber crystal following the events in the Lothal Jedi Temple, which was a test that Ezra had to take to determine if he was meant to be a Jedi. This lightsaber was unique in that it featured a built-in blaster that fires stun blasts. Sometime after building his lightsaber, Ezra had a holster with the right pouch to carry his equipment, and the left holster carrying his lightsaber. He also swapped his energy slingshot for a comlink.
Ezra's first lightsaber was destroyed in his brief duel with Vader on Malachor. Ezra continued to improve on his combat style after this, capable of performing acrobatic leaps and attacks. He eventually constructed a new green-bladed Lightsaber, this time with a traditional design. Though it did not feature a blaster built into the hilt, he used a DL-44 Heavy Blaster Pistol with his Lightsaber in combat.
Thief Skills and Wits
His years on the streets forced Ezra to learn how to survive however he could and adapt to a myriad of situations. He was a skilled thief, able to pickpocket someone in plain sight without being noticed. He used his various odds and ends of tools and junk to pick locks, and he used street smarts and his skills in free-running to make quick escapes. Additionally, he often used his quick-thinking to outwit his enemies, such as when he tricked Imperial officials into answering an emergency alarm he himself had issued with their comm-link. He was also quite athletic, thanks to his life on the streets, enabling him to use free-running and a skill akin to parkour to weave through obstacles quickly and efficiently.
Ezra holds a strong connection to the Force, so strong that he unknowingly used the Force throughout his years on the streets. He is capable of Force Sense, which is what first drew him to Kanan, and he had sensed danger when Rudor tried to fire upon him and was able to Force Jump with a crate onto the Ghost. He began learning Telekinesis under Kanan and first used the Force Push against Kallus to save Zeb. As his training progressed, Kanan taught Ezra the technique of Taming Beasts, which they used against the Inquisitor to charge him and his troopers a pack of Fyrnocks. He also convinced a Loth-cat to attack a probe droid. However, Ezra's troubled past and Kanan's training could not prepare him for when he briefly tapped into the Dark side, which encouraged Kanan to test Ezra by sending him into the Lothal Jedi Temple.
Despite a rough start, Ezra managed to overcome his fears and was rewarded with a Kyber crystal from a mysterious voice, enabling him to construct his own lightsaber. As his training progressed, Ezra experienced his first Force vision, enabling him to foresee a moment with Gall Trayvis. However, he placed too much faith in the vision and was shocked to find Trayvis had been an imperial agent routing out rebels. He seems to have a stronger Force Sense then Kanan as he felt Vader's presence while still in orbit, while Kanan didn't feel it until Vader was near them. Although in that instance, Kanan appeared to sense Vader before Ezra.
As he had begun mastering the Jedi Mind Trick, he apparently gained some ability in telepathy, as he was able to reach out through the Force to Tseebo, expressing his forgiveness, which Tseebo was able to both hear and feel. According to Kanan, Ezra has a talent for making connections through the Force, which has enabled him time and again to summon aid from various creatures via the technique of Taming Beasts, including, but not limited to, a Loth-cat, Fyrnocks, the Purrgils, and most recently a Tibidee to help him and Kanan escape the Inquisitors. This could also explain his keen Force Sense enabling him to empathically sense Maketh Tua's fear for her life and her honesty, as well as being able to sense the Dark Side from Lothal while still in orbit. His ability to connect is based on mutual understanding, however, and creatures that are foreign to him-like the Krykna Spiders-are difficult if not impossible to connect with.
After visiting Malachor, Ezra began to delve more into the dark side, using it both to access the Malachor Sith Temple and then in combat with the Seventh Sister. Eventually, he was able to open the Sith Holocron found on that planet, something that was thought to be possible only for one who could tap into the Dark Side through Sith teachings. With the holocron, Ezra utilized an advanced mind trick that forced an AT-DP pilot to kill himself and his comrades.
Originally, Ezra's skills with a lightsaber were rudimentary. He had trouble learning to deflect blaster shots and his lack of experience made him a poor swordsman. When he and Kanan both engaged The Inquisitor, Ezra's limited skills and experience made him more of a distraction to both his master and their enemy. He was able to hold his own reasonably well against the Seventh Sister in their first encounter; although he was clearly was no match for her, his skills were great enough for the female Inquisitor to note his skills with a lightsaber impressed her. However, Ezra's skills with a lightsaber soon improved to not only be able to deflect blaster-fire but also destroy his enemies' blasters without harming them, and his natural acrobatic skills enhanced by the Force made him much more agile, able to nimbly weave through battle and bring the fight straight to his enemies. Ezra also demonstrated his ability to work with Kanan to Force-push each other for advantages in fighting.
He watched a Holocron recording of Anakin Skywalker giving lightsaber instruction to hone his own saber training. Despite his increased skill, however, he was still vastly outclassed by more experienced opponents such as Vader, and even commented while watching him and Ahsoka battle that "I need a lot more training!" Though unlike his first encounter, Ezra managed to hold up against Vader a little longer.
After the events on Malachor and after training with the Sith holocron, Ezra developed a more brutal and aggressive fighting style to match his new prowess in combat.
- He is the main protagonist of the series and is voiced by Taylor Gray.
- Ezra never left Lothal until Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion.
- As of Season 3, Ezra is seventeen and, in fact, the youngest member of the Ghost crew.
- Since the Grand Inquisitor threw his lightsaber at Ezra in "Fire Across the Galaxy", Ezra now has two scars on his left cheek.

- In Season 2, he wears a holster on his belt and a comlink in place of his energy slingshot.
- In Season 3, he has a different hair style and a new green lightsaber after his old one was destroyed by Darth Vader on Malachor. He also became a more adept fighter as he was cutting Stormtroopers with little effort during a rescue mission to get Hondo.
- As of "Twilight of the Apprentice", Ezra show signs of falling to the dark side,
- Ezra and Chopper are the only characters who appeared in every episode of Star Wars Rebels.
