I will succeed where you and Kallus have failed.
―Fifth Brother to Kassius Konstantine[src]

The Fifth Brother was an Inquisitor of an unknown humanoid gray-skinned species tasked by Darth Vader to track down the Rebels and capture any surviving Jedi Knights of Order 66. He was specifically tasked with eliminating or capturing Ahsoka Tano, as well as her allies, and had several encounters with the rebels before he was finally slain by Maul on Malachor.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

The individual known as the Fifth Brother hailed from the planet Artemesium of an unnamed grey-skinned species, where he was born about twelve years before the Invasion of Naboo. Like most of his fellow Inquisitors, he occupied a position in the Jedi Order. After Darth Sidious, publicly known as Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, reorganized the Galactic Republic into the Galactic Empire and declared himself Emperor, the Fifth Brother came into the service of the Empire and the Sith after surviving Order 66. Although not a Sith himself, he was tasked by Sidious' apprentice, Darth Vader, with becoming part of an agency of Dark Jedi called the Inquisitorius in hunting down and eliminating any Jedi who survived Order 66. To accomplish this task he was trained by Vader in the ways of the dark side of the Force and studied the records of the Jedi Temple in order to defeat his enemies.

Age of the Empire[]

Meeting with the Dark Lord[]

Following the Grand Inquisitor's death at the hands of the Jedi rebel leader Kanan Jarrus and his Padawan, Ezra Bridger, the Brother and the other Inquisitors saw "new opportunities" to take his place by hunting down the two Jedi and their crew on their VCX-100, called the Ghost. He and the Seventh Sister were given the chance to do so when Darth Vader dispatched them on the Emperor's orders after discovering that his former Padawan Ahsoka Tano was a new recruit among them.

Relics of the Old Republic[]

Rebels2

The Fifth Brother arrives on the Relentless.

During the Imperial assault against the Ghost Crew on Seelos, Admiral Kassius Konstantine was ordered to have his Imperial Star Destroyer rendezvous with a shuttle he was led to believe carried Lord Vader himself. In reality, however, it carried the Fifth Brother, who arrived aboard Konstantine's Star Destroyer to begin hunting the Rebellion. Konstantine questioned why his vessel had to divert from Seelos to rendezvous with an Inquisitor, as the diversion may have compromised the assault that Agent Kallus was leading on Seelos, but the Fifth Brother had no interest in the assault and pledged to stop the Rebellion himself.

Skirmish Aboard the Medical Station[]

Always Two There Are 39

The Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister clash aboard a Republic Medical Station while searching for the Ghost Crew.

Later, he was present with both Kallus and Konstantine on the bridge of the Relentless when a power surge at an abandoned Republic Medical Station was detected. Though Kallus dismissed it, the Fifth Brother quickly took command and immediately set out for the medical station, unaware that the Seventh Sister was already there and hunting the rebels. When Ezra and Sabine Wren were fleeing this Inquisitor, they were met by a grinning Fifth Brother who ignited his lightsaber threateningly. Ezra was captured helping Sabine to escape, with the Fifth Brother reaching him just as the latter fled. He attempted to murder the young Jedi with his lightsaber, only for the Sister to deflect it with her own blade. When the Fifth Brother protested, citing Ezra as his kill, the Sister derided him for short-sightedness and pointed out that the boy could be used to trap his friends.

While the Seventh Sister interrogated Ezra, the Fifth Brother went to hunt down Sabine accompanied by two of the Sister's ID9 Seeker Droids. Hunting her through the corridors, he sensed the presence of Sabine and Garazeb Orrelios who had prepared an ambush consisting of several thermal detonators planted in the corridor. Unfortunately, the Fifth Brother used the Force to lift the detonators and throw them at the rebels, knocking out Sabine in the process. Hefting the unconscious Mandalorian over his shoulder, the Brother told the two seeker droids to do as they wished with Zeb; both droids were subsequently destroyed when the Lasat crushed them against boxes of medical supplies.

The Brother returned to find that Ezra had delivered very little information, but at that moment they received a transmission from "Commander Meiloorun" asking if they needed help; the Brother forced Ezra to accept as he threatened Sabine at lightsaber point and then proceeded to Bay Six where the rebels were to arrive. When they got there, they were ambushed by Zeb in the Phantom; in the chaos, Ezra managed to recover his lightsaber and both boarded the shuttle. Both Inquisitors attempted to hold it in place with the Force, but the Brother was forced to break off to deflect blaster fire and the Sister was nearly dragged out into space when the shuttle burst free, leaving both Inquisitors fuming.

Abducting Children[]

Later, the Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister boarded a passenger ship above Chandel to seize a Force-sensitive infant named Alora. Despite the best efforts of the grandmother Darja to stop, the two Inquisitors managed to corner them and take Alora into custody. Prior to leaving the ship, the Brother killed all of the other passengers by throwing his double-bladed lightsaber at them. The Inquisitors' actions attracted the attention of the Ghost Crew and Ahsoka. While Ahsoka traveled to Chandel, Ezra, Kanan, Zeb, and C1-10P traveled to Takobo aboard the Phantom to investigate.

Taking Alora with them, the Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister traveled to Takobo to collect a Force-sensitive Ithorian infant named Pypey. After parking their TIE Advanced v1s at a spaceport hangar bay in Hammertown, the two Inquisitors left a seeker droid to guard their ship and the baby. Together, they then visited Pypey's home and confronted her mother Oora. However, Oora had already sent her child away with the droid. Before leaving the house, the two Inquisitors accosted her and smashed the furniture in her home.

While prowling the streets of Takobo, the two Inquisitors managed to intercept the droid. However, Pypey had already been picked up by Zeb, one of the rebels they had encountered earlier on the derelict medical station. The Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister then pursued Zeb to a nearby apartment building. While the Brother used Pypey's fear to track the Jedi, the Sister sent one of her seeker droids to keep an eye outside. Shortly later, Ezra and his master Kanan entered the building to aid Zeb.

Ezra's presence caused Pypey to cry since he could sense the boy's fear. Closing in on the rebels, the Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister attempted to spike them out with their lightsabers. Ezra managed to temporarily mislead the Inquisitors by using a comlink to make a recording of Pypey's cries. The Fifth Brother fell for that ruse and was warned by the Seventh Sister to stop wasting their time. In the meantime, the rebels managed to escape the room and made a run for the stairs. To confuse the Inquisitors, the rebels split up; with Ezra and Pypey heading into the ventilation shafts while Kanan and Zeb held off the Inquisitors.

Seventh Sister and Fifth Brother

Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister encounter Kanan and Zeb.

Resuming their pursuit, the Fifth Brother sensed Ezra and Pypey's presence in the ventilation shaft above. He then used his lightsaber to spike holes in the ceilings in an attempt to flush out their quarry. Before the two Inquisitors could corner their prey, they were confronted by Kanan and Zeb. The lanky Zeb took on the Brother but was unable to match the Inquisitor's Force powers. Forced to retreat, Kanan and Zeb jumped out of the window and fled on a speeder. In response, the Inquisitors commandeered another speeder and continued the pursuit. Following another skirmish, the Inquisitors cornered their rebel foes outside the spaceport.

The two Inquisitors quickly overpowered the three rebels. Before they could finish off their work, the spaceport doors opened to reveal Ahsoka. While the other rebels retreated aboard the Phantom with Pypey, Ahsoka engaged the two Inquisitors in a lightsaber duel. Armed with two lightsabers, she engaged both Inquisitors for a few moments before effortlessly side-swiping the Fifth Brother's clumsy attack and throwing him against a pillar, knocking him out. The Seventh Sister lasted longer, but was soon defeated as well. Before Ahsoka could finish the Sister, Imperial reinforcements arrived in the form of Stormtroopers and a few Imperial Troop Transports. Though the Brother threw his lightsaber at her to try and prevent her escape, Ahsoka managed to dodge it and escaped with her rebel comrades and the babies aboard the Phantom. To add insult to injury, the Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister discovered that the rebels had also destroyed their TIE Advanced v1s and taken Alora. However, the Inquisitors were delighted to learn from one of the Sister's seeker droids that the rebels were hiding on the planet Garel.

Raid on Garel[]

Legacy8

The Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister come face-to-face with Ezra.

Following their skirmish with the rebels on Takabo, the Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister joined forces with Agent Kallus and Konstantine to attack the rebel presence on Garel. The two Inquisitors accepted Kallus' suggestion that the Imperial servants work together to capture the Phoenix Squadron and the Ghost Crew. The Fifth Brother and Seventh Brother took part in the ground assault and encountered Ezra and Kanan in their hangar bay. Despite the Sister's best efforts to goad Ezra into attacking them, Kanan prevented the fight from occurring by shutting the blast door; leaving the Inquisitors on the other side. The crew then took advantage of this delay to escape into the atmosphere above Garel.

Jedi Temple on Lothal[]

Shroud of Darkness 02

Kanan and Ezra face the Fifth Brother Seventh Sister on Oosalan Mesa.

On the planet Oosalon, the Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister engaged Kanan and Ezra in a lightsaber duel; overpowered, the Jedi managed to escape their attackers on the back of a Tibidee.

The Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister were able to track Kanan and Ezra to Lothal. While the Brother did not sense the presence of the Jedi and thought they had left, the Sister; using one of her seeker droids; discovered an ancient Jedi Temple on the planet's surface. The pair of Inquisitors used the Force to summon the temple from under the ground; lightsabers at the ready, the duo entered its depths only to be attacked by the manifestations of several Jedi Temple Guards, including one who resembled the Grand Inquisitor, much to the Fifth Brother's shock.

In the aftermath of this encounter, the Seventh Sister and Fifth Brother found themselves in the presence of Darth Vader. When the Fifth Brother reported that the Jedi were growing in their power, the Sith Lord calmly stated that the rebels' growing power would be their undoing.

Showdown on Malachor[]

The Fifth Brother was ordered by Darth Vader to travel to Malachor with Seventh Sister and obtain a Sith holocron from within a Sith temple located beneath the planet's surface. She and her accomplice came to the aid of the Eighth Brother after he was captured by Kanan and Ahsoka; all three Inquisitors were forced to retreat when their opponents were joined by Ezra and his new companion, the former Sith Lord Maul. Having escaped her adversaries, the Seventh Sister dispatched some of her ID-9 Seeker Droids to spy on them.

Upon attacking Ahsoka and Kanan with the aid of the Eighth Brother, Maul appeared to assist the Jedi. Ahsoka managed to strike Fifth Brother's lightsaber hilt, damaging the weapon and causing him to drop it. Much to the Fifth Brother’s horror, Maul slew the defenseless inquisitor with ease.

Personality and Traits[]

The Fifth Brother is a self-assured individual, confident in his ability to succeed where the rank-and-file Imperials and even his predecessor The Grand Inquisitor had met defeat. He is less tactically-minded than the Grand Inquisitor or the Seventh Sister, preferring to eliminate his targets at the first opportunity, and seems to have a hunter-mentality, stating to his colleague "the kill is [his]" after she prevented him from killing Ezra. He also tends to look to the Force more often than the Seventh Sister, telepathically sensing his prey and traps. Also, despite his lighsaber's capabilities, he appears to prefer to only use a single blade. The Fifth Brother is clearly over-confident, often simply walking toward his foe in a battle. Despite this, he is willing to listen to input from his fellow Inquisitors, and even protect them from potential harm. However, he maintains an air of superiority, particularly when his decisions are questioned by his junior partner.

He is clearly ruthless, as he threatened to cut Sabine's throat to force Ezra to comply with him and his partner's orders, as well as being willing to strike down a shipful of innocent bystanders after capturing a Force-sensitive child.

Powers and Abilities[]

Like the other Inquisitors, the Fifth Brother is proficient in the use of a multi-form lightsaber although he prefers to use it in single blade-mode. Due to his considerable size, he is not quite as agile as the Grand Inquisitor or the Seventh Sister, but his skill with the Force and sheer brute strength in battle more than make up for it. The Fifth Brother has demonstrated a lack of finesse; he had a tendency to use heavy power attacks in his lightsaber combat style, as he was able to drive Kanan back with one strike and easily break through his defense. During a brief grapple with Garazeb Orrelios, he also proved more than a match for the powerful and experienced Lasat, showing himself to be capable of unarmed combat.

However, he has proven to be no match for Ahsoka Tano as during their duel, Ahsoka was able to outmaneuver and overpower him rather easily in mere seconds. His primary weakness could be that his bulky size meant that he lacked agility and acrobatic ability, and meant that he was vulnerable to other opponents who were much faster and more agile than he was, such as Ahsoka Tano. He and the Seventh Sister also tend to fight individually rather than as a unit, allowing such opponents as an experienced former Jedi Padawan to take them on one at a time. His skills were however no match for Maul who was outmatched and killed by him.

His Force Sense enabled him to not only sense his adversaries, but deduce they were trying to ambush him, and turn the tables by telekinetically using their own explosives against them, and later used his power to try and prevent his targets escaping aboard the Phantom until he got distracted by trying to deflect Sabine's blaster shots. He also appears to have some skill as a pilot, given that he utilizes a TIE Advanced v1 as his personal vehicle.

Trivia[]

  • He and the Seventh Sister are the secondary antagonists of Season 2.
  • He was voiced by Philip Anthony-Rodriguez.
  • Unlike most who embrace the dark side of The Force, the Fifth Brother did not have the red-rimmed yellow eyes, instead having pale white eyes that shut vertically.
  • The Fifth Brother's design was inspired by unused concept art for Star Wars: The Force Awakens; he is the first Inquisitor to be a member of a currently unknown species.
  • Like The Grand Inquisitor, the Fifth Brother wielded a double-ended lightsaber that rotates along a disc. But unlike his predecessor, his lightsaber's disc had indents on each side.
  • The Fifth Brother was very impulsive and would usually act without thinking, unlike the Seventh Sister who provided cunning and strategy, which is also why the Fifth Brother often appeared to be the less dominant of the two Inquisitors, though he was not hesitant about asserting his superior rank.
  • A manifestation of The Grand Inquisitor as a Jedi Temple Guard possessed transparently clear white eyes like the Fifth Brother.
