R2-D2 was built in 33 BBY on Naboo and belonged to Padmé Amidala. The following year, he became the property of Anakin Skywalker, who he had a trustful friendship with. R2 served in several missions during the Clone Wars, alongside his owner. Following the fall of the Republic, R2 was handed off to Bail Organa, who took care of the droid for several years.
Encounter with the Rebels
Threepio and Artoo accompanied Minister Tua to Garel where he served as a translator for Amda Wabo. Upon their arrival, C-3PO and R2-D2 were present when the Rebels stole crates of T-7 Ion Disruptors for the Empire.
Picking up EG-86
R2 was later part of a reception party at Havoc Outpost which greeted Sabine and Chopper, the bounty hunter Ketsu Onyo and their special cargo: the GNK power droid EG-86, who was carrying some secret intelligence of value to the Rebellion. R2 whistled when he greeted EG, who whistled back in return.
Personality and Traits
R2-D2 was known for his loyal, courageous, and assertive personality. Over the years, R2 had served several masters diligently including the Royal House of Naboo, Senator Padmé Amidala, Anakin, and Bail. While R2 was not designed for combat, R2 was still able to hold himself well in a fight on several occasions during the Clone Wars. Unlike his fastidious and worry-prone protocol counterpart 3PO, R2 had an adventurous spirit and was able to cope well under challenging circumstances. Unlike 3PO, he was able to keep secrets and employ deception to achieve his masters' goals. Due to his resourcefulness and quick-thinking nature, R2 acquitted himself well during a number of difficult and challenging missions including repairing the Naboo Royal Starship's shield generator and preventing T-7 ion disruptor rifles from falling into the hands of the Empire.
