Tusken Raiders often called Sand People were the native species of Tatooine. They are known for their hostility and savagery. They are instantly recognizable by their fully enclosed outfits, including masks and robes, that help protect them from the harsh climate of their desert home. They are often armed with Gaderffii sticks and cycler rifles.
Tusken Raiders have inhabited Tatooine for an unknown length of time, but have gained a reputation for monstrous acts towards other inhabitants of the planet. These include attacking podracers during the Boonta Eve Classic including a young Anakin Skywalker, and later abducting Anakin's mother Shmi while she was away from the Lars Moisture Farm. Anakin, who returned to Tatooine some time after this had occurred as a Jedi Padawan, found the camp where his mother was being held only for her to die in his arms as a result of all that she had suffered. Enraged, Anakin slaughtered the entire camp, the first major step on the path that would lead to his transformation into the Sith Apprentice Darth Vader.
A small party of Sand People later attacked Ezra Bridger after he and C1-10P landed in their RZ-1T A-Wing Starfighter, which was destroyed as a result of their attack. Ezra succeeded in driving away one of his attackers, while the other three were slaughtered by Maul, who had purposefully lured Ezra to the planet.
- "Twin Suns" (First appearance)
- The Tusken Raiders in Rebels were designed without the robes they have in the movies due to the costly and time-consuming nature of creating robes in CGI.
